GEAppliances.comThroughout this manual, features and appearance may vary from your model.How to Light a BurnerMake sure the control lock knob is in theUNLOCK position.Your cooktop burners are lit by electricignition, eliminating the need forstanding pilot lights with constantlyburning flames.Push the control knob down and turn itto the LITE position. After the burnerignites, turn the knob to adjust the flamesize. To turn the burner off, turn theknob clockwise as far as it will go, to theOFF position.■ Check to be sure the burner you turn on is theone you want to use.■ Be sure you turn the control knob to OFFwhen you finish cooking.■ In case of a power failure, you can light theburners with a match. Hold a lit match to theburner; then push in and turn the control knobto the LITE position. Use extreme caution whenlighting burners this way. Burners in use whenan electrical power failure occurs will continueto operate normally.■ Do not operate the burner for an extendedperiod of time without cookware on the grate.The finish on the grate may chip withoutcookware to absorb the heat.■ Be sure the burners and grates are cool beforeyou place your hand, a pot holder, cleaningcloths or other materials on them.Control Lock (on some models)To lock the cooktop and preventunwanted use, turn the control lock knobcounterclockwise to LOCK. An indicatorlight will glow to show that the cooktopis locked.When locked, the cooktop will soundif any control knob is set to any positionother than OFF.To unlock, turn the control lock knobto UNLOCK.UNLOCKLOCKCONTROL LOCKSealed Gas BurnersThe smallest burner in the right rearand the center burner (on some models)are the simmer burners. These burnerscan be turned down to LO or SIMMER(depending on model) for a very lowsetting.
