When choosing a location, considerthe following: The cooktop should be easy to reach andlighted with natural light during the day. To eliminate the risk of burns or fire byreaching over heated surface units, cabinetstorage space located above the surface unitsshould be avoided. If cabinet storage spaceis to be provided, the risk can be reduced byinstalling a range hood that projectshorizontally a minimum of 5″ beyond thebottom of the cabinets. Cabinets installedabove the counter unit may be no deeper than13″ and must be at least 30″ above the cooktop. To insure accuracy, it is best to make a templatewhen cutting the opening in the counter.
