You may alsouse abrasive cleaners and scouring pads to cleanburner grates and the vent grille. Dry the gratesand grille with a cloth-don't put them back onthe cooktop wet.To get rid of burned-on food, place the gratesand grille in a covered container. Add 1/4 cup (59mL) ammonia and let them soak several hours orovernight. Wash, rinse well and dry.Although they're durable, the gratesand grille will gradually lose their shine,regardless of the best care you can give them.This is due to their continual exposure to hightemperatures.Do not operate a burner for an extended periodof time without cookware on the grate. The finishon the grate may chip without cookware toabsorb the heat.After cleaning, replace the center vent grillefirst. Replacethe side grates so that the centerextensions are oriented toward the center ofthe cooktop. The rear center extensions shouldslightly overlap the vent grille. Hake sure thegrates are positioned securely over the burnersand that they are stable and level.Rubber Grate FeetFor stability, your cooktop has rubberfeet on the burner grates. Foodswith a lotof acid (tomatoes, sauerkraut, fruit juices, etc.)orfoods with high sugar content could cause a dullspot if allowed to set.When the surface has cooled, washand rinse. For other spills such as fat spatterings,etc., wash with soap and water once the surfacehas cooled. Then rinse and polish with a dry cloth.NOTE: Do not store flammable materials inan oven, drawer or near the cooktop. After cleaning,rinse the racks with clean water and dry with aclean cloth. Gray porcelain-coated oven racksmay remain in the oven during the self-cleaningcycle without being damaged. The shiny, silver-colored oven racks may remain in the ovenduring the self-cleaning cycle, but they will losetheir luster and become hard to slide.It will be necessary to grease all ovenrack side edges with a light coating of vegetableoil after cleaning them by hand or in the oven.This will help maintain the ease of sliding theracks in and out of the oven.33
