7Safety Instructions Operating Instructions Care and Cleaning Troubleshooting Tips Consumer SupportHow induction cooking works. ge.comThe elements beneath the cookingsurface produce a magnetic field thatcauses the electrons in the ferrousmetal pan to vibrate and produceheat. The cooking surface itself does notheat. Heat is produced in the cookingpan, and cannot be generated until apan is placed on the cooking surface. When the element is activated, the panbegins to heat immediately and in turnheats the contents of the pan.Magnetic induction cooking requiresthe use of cookware made of ferrousmetals—metals to which magnets willstick, such as iron or steel.Use pans that fit the element size. The pan must be large enough for thesafety sensor to activate an element. The cooktop will not start if a verysmall steel or iron utensil (less thanthe minimum size across the bottom) isplaced on the cooking surface whenthe unit is turned on—items such assteel spatulas, cooking spoons, knivesand other small utensils.Min. SizeEach cooking element requires a MINIMUM pansize. If the pan is properly centered, and of thecorrect material, but is too small for the cookingelement, the element cannot be activated. Thedisplay will flash “F” along with the power levelselected.Cookware larger than the element ring may beused; however, heat will only occur above theelement. For best results, the cookware must make FULLcontact with the glass surface.Do not allow the bottom of the pan or cookware totouch the surrounding metal cooktop trim or tooverlap the cooktop controls. For best performance, match the pan size to theelement size. Using a smaller pot on a larger burnerwill generate less power at any given setting.5-3/4” Min. Dia.Pan Size5-3/4” Min. Dia.Pan Size5-3/4” Min. Dia.Pan Size5-3/4” Min. Dia.Pan Size4-3/4” Min.
