– 15 –Duct FittingsNote: Any home ventilation system, such asa cooktop with a downdraft exhaustmechanism, may interrupt the proper flow ofcombustion air and exhaust required byfireplaces, gas furnaces, gas water heaters,and other naturally vented systems. Tominimize the chance of interruption of suchnaturally vented systems, follow the heatingequipment manufacturer’s guidelines andsafety standards such as those published byNFPA and ASHRAE.Use the chart at the right to compute themaximum permissible lengths for duct runsto outdoors.Note: Do not exceed maximum permissibleequivalent lengths.Flexible ductingWARNING: Do not use flexible plasticducting.If flexible metal ducting is used, all theequivalent length values entered on theworksheet for flexible ducting should bedoubled.
