About the water filter. GEAppliances.comWater Filter CartridgeThe water filter cartridge is locatedin the back upper right corner ofthe refrigerator compartment.When to Replace the FilterThe filter cartridge should be replaced whenindicated on the control panel. The waterfilter indicator light shows the following:Green – GoodOrange – Change soonRed – Change immediatelyFollow the screen instructions shown inWATER FILTER in the About the 7” LCD ControlPanel for LCD Models section.Installing the Filter CartridgeIf you are replacing the cartridge, firstremove the old one by slowly turningit counterclockwise. A small amountof water may drip down.CAUTION: If air has beentrapped in the system, the filter cartridge maybe ejected as it is removed. Use caution whenremoving.Remove the protective foil from the endof the cartridge.Lining up the arrow on the cartridgeand the cartridge holder, place the topof the new cartridge up inside the holder.Do not push it up into the holder. Slowlyrotate the cartridge clockwise until itstops. As you turn the cartridge, it willautomatically raise itself into position.Cartridge will rotate about 1/4 turn.Do not overtighten.Press and hold the ICE & WATER pad for3 seconds to reset the filter.Run water from the dispenser for3 minutes (about 11⁄2 gallons) to clearthe system and prevent sputtering.See To Use the Dispenser section.NOTE: A newly installed water filtercartridge may cause water to spurtfrom the dispenser.Filter Bypass PlugYou must use the filter bypass plug whena replacement filter cartridge is not available.The icemaker will not operate withoutthe filter or filter bypass plug.Replacement Filters:To order additional filter cartridgesin the United States, visit our Website,ge.com or call GE Parts and Accessories,800.626.2002.Filter Model MWFCustomers in Canada should consultthe yellow pages for the nearest MabeService Center.CartridgeHolderFilterBypassPlug15
