Installation InstructionsEXHAUSTING THE DRYERWARNING - Toreducetherisk of fire or personal injurg:o This dryer must be exhausted to the outdoors.Use only metal duct.Do not terminate exhaust in a chimney, any gasvent, under an enclosed floor (crawl space) or intoan attic. The accumulated lint could create a firehazard., Provide an access for inspection and cleaning ofthe exhaust system, especially at turns. Inspectand clean at least once a year., Never terminate the exhaust into a common ductwith a kitchen exhaust. A combination of lint andgrease could create a fire hazard., Do not obstruct incoming or exhausted air.• Use only 4" rigid metal or UL-listed flexible metal(semi-rigid or foil-type) duct to connect the dryerto the home exhaust duct. It must be installedin accordance with the instructions found inConnecting the Dryer to House Vent on page 25of this manual.• Do not use duct longer than specified in the exhaustlength table. Longer ducts can accumulate lint, creating a potential fire hazard.• Never install a screen in or over the exhaust duct. This will cause lint to accumulate, creating apotential fire hazard.• Do not assemble ductwork with any fasteners thatextend into the duct. These fasteners canaccumulate lint, creating a potential fire hazard.• This dryer comes ready for rear exhausting. If spaceis limited, use the instructions on pages 28, 29 toexhaust directly from the sides or bottom of thecabinet.TOOLS AND MATERIALS YOU WILLNEED TO INSTALL EXHAUST DUCTO Phillips-head screwdriver0 Duct tape or duct clampO Rigid or UL-listed flexible metal 4" (10.2 cm)ductOVent hood24EXHAUST SYSTEM CHECKLISTHOOD OR WALL CAPo Terminate in a manner to prevent back drafts orentry of birds or other wildlife., Termination should present minimal resistance tothe exhaust airflow and should require little or nomaintenance to prevent clogging., Never install a screen in or over the exhaust duct., Wall caps must be installed at least 12" aboveground level or any other obstruction with theopening pointed down., If roof vents or Iouvered plenums are used, theymust be equivalent to a 4" dampened wall cap inregard to resistance to airflow, prevention of backdrafts and maintenance required to preventclogging.SEPARATION OF TURNS, For best performance, separate all turns byat least 4 ft. of straight duct, including distancebetween last turn and dampened wall cap.For turns less than 4 ft. apart, see theDucting Component Equivalency Chart.SEALING OF JOINTS, All joints should be tight to avoid leaks. The maleend of each section of duct must point awayfrom the dryer., Do not assemble the ductwork with fastenersthat extend into the duct. They will serve as acollection point for lint., Duct joints should be made air- andmoisture-tight by wrapping the overlappedjoints with duct tape or aluminum tape., Horizontal runs should slope down towardoutdoors 1/4" per foot.INSULATIONo Ductwork that runs through an unheated areaor is near air conditioning should be insulated to
