Preparation:1. Remove the water reservoir cover (5)and fill with cold water to the MAXline indicated on reservoir (6). Forbest taste, the use of bottled water isrecommended. The water reservoir (6) can beremoved by sliding it forward andthen filling it. The reservoir can beremoved after disconnecting thedecompression duct (lob) bypulling it down.IMPORTANT: When replacingreservoir, be certain that suctiontube is inside the reservoir and notkinked or blocked and the decom-pression duct is again in the originalplace by pushing it up.2. Insert plug (14) into a suitable walloutfet (see point (1) under “caution”).3. Turn the power switch (1) to “I”. Thepower-on indicator light (2) will lightup. Make certain that the hot water/brew switch (3) is in the “0” position. If you hear a noise it means thepump is on, turn it off immediatelywith the brew switch.4.Priming the pump: This procedu-re prepares the pump and fills thewater boiler with fresh water. Thisshould be done whenever themachine is switched on.This machine, featuring a pump and asolenoid valve to brew coffee, isequipped with a self-priming system.Place an empty cup on the drip-plate,do not insert filter holder into brew headand press hot water/coffee switch (3).You will hear the sound of the operatingpump and after few seconds, water willstart to get out from the brewing head.Once cup is filled, set coffee switch (3)onto pos. “0”.Classic Coffee Gaggia in now ready tobe used.Note: It may happen that the self-priming feature of the pump does nottemporarily work due to an air lock. Inthis case water does not get out frombrewing head, and the followingprocedure should be followed:a) Place a small frothing pitcher or mugunder the steam nozzle (8).b) Turn the steam knob (7) on the sidecounter-clockwise to open thesteam/hot water valve, and turn thesteam switch (4) and the hot water/brew switch (3) to “I”. Shut thesteam/hot water valve and turn hotwater/brew switch and the steamswitch (4) to “0”. The Classic CoffeeGaggia has been primed.d) NOTE: The temperature ready-light(3a) will automatically go on-and-offas the machine’s boiler heats. Whenthe light goes on, the correct watertemperature for brewing (andsteaming) has been reached.Wait at least 6 minutes for the machineto reach its full operating temperature(during this time, the indicator light willgo on and off frequently).Another feature of the machine is the“no-drip system”, eliminating most ofdripping from brewing head. Aftercoffee brewing, however, a littledripping may occur due to wet coffeegrinds in the filter-holder.Caution: Never operate pumpwithout water in machine asdamage to the pump may occur.Damage of pump run withoutwater is not covered by warranty.Making Espresso:1. Follow the procedure describedunder Preparation.2. Allow about 6 minutes for the machine toreach its proper operating temperature.(Use this time to set table, prepare cups, coffee, milk, etc.).
