Part # 9229077 (07/05) Page 9INSTALLATION ContinuedWARNING: All connections must be sealed with ajoint compound suitable for LP gas, and all connectionsmust be tested with a soapy solution before lightingany pilots!Initial Pilot LightInitial pilot light is in the following sequence:. Turn the manual shut-off valve on the incomingservice line “OFF”2. Turn all burner valves “OFF”.3. Close all pilot adjusting screws (clockwise turn allthe way in).4. Wait for any accumulated gas to disperse.5. Open the manual shut-off valve.6. Apply a lighted match or taper to a pilot burner andopen that pilot’s adjustment screw gradually untilthe pilot lights.7. Adjust the pilot flame for the desiredcharacteristics.8. Turn “ON” that main burner and watch to makesure it lights from the pilot, then turn the burner“OFF”.9. Repeat steps 6 through 8 to light all remainingpilots.If only one pilot has gone out, it is not necessary tofollow the entire procedure outlined above. Merely applya lighted match or taper to the pilot until it lights, thenadjust the pilot valve. If the pilot will not light, closethe adjustment valve completely, do not use that burner,and call for service.NOTE: It may be necessary to re-light the pilots severaltimes until the new lines are purged of any trapped airand constant gas flow is attained.Shut Down. Turn top burner valves clockwise to “OFF”position.2. When shutting down for periods longer thanovernight, turn the manual ON/OFF valve onthe incoming service line “OFF”. Close all pilotadjusting screws (right-hand turn all the way in).Final PreparationNew units are wiped clean with solvent at the factoryto remove any visible signs of dirt, oil, grease, etc.,remaining from the manufacturing process. They shouldbe washed with hot, soapy water to remove any solventor oil residue or installation dust or debris before usingfor food preparation.CLEANING AND MAINTENANCEAny piece of equipment works better and lasts longer whenmaintained properly and kept clean. Cooking equipmentis no exception. Your Garland Char-Broiler must be keptclean during the working day and thoroughly cleanedat the end of each day.WARNING: If gas odors are detected, the gas supplymust be turned “OFF” at the main shut-off valve andthe local gas company or authorized service agencycontacted for service.Daily-GXC Series. Remove the broiler grates. Wire brush them cleanof any encrusted materials and wash in hot, soapywater. A common cleaning practice is to turn gratesupside-down to burn off encrusted material. Donot do this with the char-broiler! It is likely thatcooked on matter will cook in even deeper ratherthan burn off.
