100 GPSMAP 182/182C Owner’s ManualAPPENDIX > INSTALLING AND REMOVING DATA CARDSInstalling and Removing Data CardsThe GPSMAP 182/182C uses optional Garmin marine BlueChartand MapSource data cards to display digital charts and mapson-screen. Data cards are installed in the card slot located at thebottom right of the unit. Data cards can be installed or removed atany time, whether the unit is on or off.To install a data card:1. Open the card door by pressing together on the two handlesat the bottom of the door and lifting it up and open.2. Insert the card, with the label facing front and the handlebottom, into the slot.3. Firmly push the card into the unit. It in not necessary toforce the card and about 1/2" is still exposed when it isproperly inserted. If the unit is on, a confirmation tonesounds and a message displays on-screen noting the carddetails when the card is properly installed and accepted.4. Close the cover.If you insert a data card and get a “card format not recognized”message, try removing the card and reinserting it. If the card is stillnot recognized, contact Garmin Product Support or your Garmindealer for assistance. Data cards are not waterproof and shouldnot be exposed to moisture or excessive static charges. Data cardsshould be stored in the case supplied with the card.To remove a data card:1. Open the card door by pressing together on the two handlesat the bottom of the door and lifting it up and open.2. Grasp the card handle at the bottom and pull down firmly.3. If the unit is on, a confirmation tone sounds when the datacard has been removed.The first time you insert a data card, the unit takes a few seconds toread the card.After the data card is read, a summary screen appears. PressENTER to acknowledge.
