Garmin G1000 Pilot’s Guide for the Socata TBM 850/900 190-00709-05 Rev. D518AUTOMATIC FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEMAs the aircraft nears the VNV Target Altitude, the flight director automatically transitions to VNV TargetAltitude Capture Mode with Altitude Hold Mode armed. This automatic transition is indicated by the green‘ALTV’ annunciation flashing for up to 10 seconds and the appearance of the white ‘ALT” annunciation. TheVNV Target Altitude is shown as the Altitude Reference beside the ‘ALTV’ annunciation and remains displayedabove the Vertical Speed Indicator. The Required Vertical Speed Indication (RVSI) is removed once VNVTarget Altitude Capture Mode becomes active. At 50 feet from the VNV Target Altitude, the flight director automatically transitions from VNV TargetAltitude Capture to Altitude Hold Mode and tracks the level leg. As Altitude Hold Mode becomes active, thewhite ‘ALT’ annunciation moves to the active vertical mode field and flashes green for 10 seconds to indicatethe automatic transition. The flight director automatically arms Vertical Path Tracking, allowing upcomingdescent legs to be captured and subsequently tracked.Flash up to 10 sec, Indicating Automatic TransitionAltitude Reference (InThis Case, Equal ToVNV Altitude Target)Figure 7-16 VNV Altitude CaptureNOTE: Pressing the CWS Button while in VNV Target Altitude Capture Mode does not cancel the mode.Changing the current VNV Target Altitude while VNV Target Altitude Capture Mode is active causes theflight director to revert to Pitch Hold Mode. Vertical Path Tracking and the appropriate altitude capture modeare armed in preparation to capture the new VNV Target Altitude or the Selected Altitude, depending onwhich altitude is to be intercepted first.VNV target altitudes can be changed while editing the active flight plan (see the Flight Management Sectionfor details).GLIDEPATH MODE (GP)NOTE: Pressing the CWS Button while Glidepath Mode is active does not cancel the mode. The autopilotguides the aircraft back to the glidepath upon release of the CWS Button.Glidepath Mode is used to track the WAAS-based glidepath. When Glidepath Mode is armed, ‘GP’ isannunciated in white in the AFCS Status Box.Selecting Glidepath Mode:1) Ensure a GPS approach with vertical guidance (LPV, LNAV/VNAV, LP+V, LNAV+V) is loaded into the active flightplan. The active waypoint must be part of the flight plan (cannot be a direct-to a waypoint not in the flight plan).2) Ensure that GPS is the selected navigation source (use the CDI Softkey to cycle through navigation sources ifnecessary).3) Press the APR Key.
