190-01115-01 G3X/G3X Touch Install Manual - GDU 4XX Config and Post Install CheckoutRev. AC Page 34-134 GDU 4XX CONFIGURATION AND POST INSTALLATIONCHECKOUTThe checkout procedures in this section are recommended to be performed after installing the G3X. Thecalibration procedures are required to be performed after installing the G3X. It is assumed that the personperforming these checks is familiar with the aircraft, has a working knowledge of typical avionics systems, and has experience using the test equipment defined in this section. If replacing GDU 37X display(s) with GDU 4XX display(s), the following may be helpful in transferringsome of the stored calibration data.• As the data stored in the configuration module cannot be transferred from the GDU 37X displaysto GDU 4XX displays, Garmin suggests recording GDU 37X stored calibration data such asV-speeds, RS-232 settings, ARINC 429 settings, engine gauge configuration, etc. to be used in theGDU 4XX. This is done by writing down the info or by storing screenshots.• If reusing the GDU 37X configuration module, it should be erased (after recording stored info perabove) by selecting it on the main config page, pressing the Menu key, and selecting the option toformat the configuration module. Then re-enter the various settings (with changes as required toaccommodate any updated wiring) per Section 34.4.• The fuel level calibration can be backed up/restored by accessing the appropriate calibration page, pressing the Menu key, and selecting the option to read/write the calibration to/from the SD card(repeat for each tank) per Fuel Quantity Calibration Data Backup.• If the ADAHRS LRUs (GMU 44/GSU 25/ GSU 73) are not being replaced or moved, the AHRScalibration will remained stored/valid, and does not need to be recalibrated.NOTEThe procedures and screenshots in this section apply to the GDU 45X, GDU 46X, andGDU 470 units. Differences in appearance and layout of the screenshots may existbetween the two models and may differ slightly from the actual displayed image on theGDU 4XX.NOTESome procedures in this section require that the GPS receiver is receiving sufficientsatellite signal to compute a present position (Table 34-2). This requires outdoor line-of-site to GPS satellite signals or a GPS indoor repeater.NOTEAs these procedures involve engine run-up and moving the aircraft, it is recommended thatthe installer read this entire section before beginning the checkout procedure.NOTEEnsure that all GDU 4XX displays have been updated to the current software versionbefore performing any post-installation configuration, checkout, or calibration steps, andbefore attempting to troubleshoot any issues. Using up-to-date software ensures that allprevious software improvements are available, and is the most effective first step afterpowering on the system. See Section 34.3.1 for information about updating GDU 4XXsoftware.
