Ensure that theradar is installed according to the recommendations in theseinstructions and that all personnel are clear of the path of theradar beam before transmitting. When properly installed andoperated, the use of this radar conforms to the requirements ofANSI/IEEE C95.1-1992 Standard for Safety Levels with Respectto Human Exposure to Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields.When the radar is transmitting, do not look directly at theantenna at close range; eyes are the most sensitive part of thebody to electromagnetic energy.When connecting the power cable, do not remove the in-linefuse holder. To prevent the possibility of injury or productdamage caused by fire or overheating, the appropriate fusemust be in place as indicated in the product specifications. Inaddition, connecting the power cable without the appropriatefuse in place voids the product warranty.CAUTIONThis device should be used only as a navigational aid. Do notattempt to use the device for any purpose requiring precisemeasurement of direction, distance, location, or topography.Always wear safety goggles, ear protection, and a dust maskwhen drilling, cutting, or sanding.NOTICEWhen drilling or cutting, always check what is on the oppositeside of the surface.CAUTIONOpening the pedestal may result in personal injury and/ordamage to the device. Any damage to the device resulting fromopening the unit by anyone other than a Garmin authorizedservice technician will not be covered by the Garmin warranty.Registering Your DeviceHelp us better support you by completing our online registrationtoday.• Go to my.garmin.com.• Keep the original sales receipt, or a photocopy, in a safeplace.Contacting Garmin Product Support• Go to www.garmin.com/support/ for in-country supportinformation.• In the USA, call 913-397-8200 or 1-800-800-1020.• In the UK, call 0808 238 0000.• In Europe, call +44 (0) 870 850 1241.Loading the New Software on a MemoryCard1 Insert a memory card into the card slot on the computer.2 Go to www.garmin.com/support/software/marine.html.3 Select Download next to GPSMAP Series with SD Card.4 Read and agree to the terms.5 Select Download.6 Select Run.7 Select the drive associated with the memory card, and selectNext > Finish.Updating the Device SoftwareBefore you can update the software, you must obtain asoftware-update memory card or load the latest software onto amemory card.1 Turn on the chartplotter.2 After the home screen appears, insert the memory card intothe card slot.NOTE: In order for the software update instructions toappear, the device must be fully booted before the card isinserted.3 Follow the on-screen instructions.4 Wait several minutes while the software update processcompletes.5 When prompted, leave the memory card in place and restartthe chartplotter manually.6 Remove the memory card.NOTE: If the memory card is removed before the devicerestarts fully, the software update is not complete.Mounting ConsiderationsTo complete the installation, you need the appropriate fasteners,tools, and mounts. These items are available at most marinedealers.• It is highly recommended that the device is mounted out ofrange of personnel, with the horizontal beam width abovehead height. To avoid exposure to harmful radio frequency(RF) levels, the device should not be mounted closer topeople than the maximum safe distance value listed in theproduct specifications.• The device should be mounted high above the ship’s keelline with minimal blockage between the vessel and the radarbeam. Obstructions may cause blind and shadow sectors, orgenerate false echoes. The higher the installation position,the farther the radome can detect targets.• The device should be mounted on a flat surface or a platformthat is parallel to the vessel's water line and is sturdy enoughto support the device's weight. The weight for each model islisted in the product specifications.• Most radar beams spread vertically 12.5° above À and 12.5°below Á the radome's radiating element. On vessels withhigher bow angles at cruise speed, the installation angle canbe lowered to point the beam slightly downward to thewaterline while at rest.
