4.4 USING WAYPOINTS BY SCANNINGThe GPS 100 offers a waypoint scanning feature which will simplify waypointname entry. A waypoint list is available for scanning in any waypoint namefield. The list consists of up to nine nearest waypoints within 100 nm and acomplete list of waypoints which are organized alphabetically (numbers areordered before the letters of the alphabet). The nearest waypoint list isplaced in front of the complete list so that, in the event of an emergency, youmay quickly access the desired nearest waypoint.To enter waypoint name by scanning...· With the cursor over a blank waypoint name field, press the WPT key.The nearest waypoint will be displayed in the waypoint field.· Use the right and left arrow keys to scan through the list of waypoints,starting with the nearest list and followed by the complete list.· With the desired waypoint shown, press the ENT key to select thewaypoint (use the CLR key to cancel the scanning operation at anytime).To avoid scanning through the entire waypoint list, you may want to enter thefirst few characters of the waypoint name.To scan waypoints with specified initial characters...· Enter the desired number of initial characters of the waypoint nameinto a waypoint field as normally done when entering a waypointname.· Press the WPT key to display the first waypoint that begins with thecharacter(s) you have entered.· Use the right and left arrow keys to scan through the list of thewaypoints that matches the entered characters.· With the desired waypoint shown, press the ENT key to select thewaypoint (use the CLR key to cancel the scanning operation at anytime).4-5
