The outer ring representsthe horizon, the inner ring represents 45° above the horizon, andthe center represents directly overhead. When the unit is using asatellite for navigation, the satellite number is highlighted on thelocation rings. The unit can be set to show satellite location withNorth or your current track at the top of the screen.Satellite Strength Indicator BarsThe Satellite Strength Indicator Bars show the strength of thesignal being received, and the status of the signal. The bars areeither shaded or filled. The gray bar means the GPS is in theprocess of storing orbital data it is receiving from the satellitesignal. When the bar turns solid, the GPS is using the satellitesignal for navigation. A “D” in or above the bar means thatdifferential corrections (WAAS) is being applied to that satellite.Date, Time, and Current LocationThe GPS gets date and time information from the satellite’son-board atomic clock. When the GPS receiver has achieved aGPS location, the current location appears in the selected locationformat.
