90 GPSMAP 3005C Owner’s ManualAPPENDIX > C ARING FOR THE GPSMAP 3005CIf the active GRI Chain, secondary stations, or offsets were changed since thewaypoint was created, the waypoint now references the active GRI-chain andsecondary stations and adjusts the TD coordinates accordingly. Remember thatthe GPS is not relying on the LORAN signal for navigation and actually convertsthe TD coordinate to a useful latitude/longitude coordinate (in the background)before storing the waypoint to memory or using it for navigation. Because of this, the unit can navigate to a TD coordinate anywhere in the world. For more information on LORAN TDs, you can download Garmin’s Loran TDPosition Format Handbook from the Garmin Web site.Caring for the GPSMAP 3005CThe GPSMAP 3005C case is constructed of high-quality materials and does notrequire user maintenance except cleaning.Cleaning the CaseClean the unit’s outer casing (except for the screen) using a cloth dampened witha mild detergent solution. Wipe dry. Avoid chemical cleaners and solvents thatmay damage plastic components.Cleaning the ScreenThe GPSMAP 3005C lens is coated with a special anti-reflective coating that issensitive to skin oils, waxes, and abrasive cleaners. Cleaners containing ammonia, alcohol, abrasives, or anti-grease detergents will harm the anti-reflective coating. It is important to clean the lens using an eyeglass lens cleaner that is specified assafe for anti-reflective coatings and a clean, lint-free cloth.StorageDo not store the GPSMAP 3005C where prolonged exposure to extremetemperatures may occur (such as in the trunk of a car) because permanent damagemay result. User information, such as waypoints and routes, are retained in theunit’s memory without the need for external power. It is always a good practiceto back up important user data by manually recording it, loading it to a computer(transferring it to MapSource), or storing it on a data card.Water ImmersionThe GPSMAP 3005C is waterproof to IEC Standard 60529 IPX7. It canwithstand immersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. Prolonged submersioncan cause damage to the unit. After submersion, be certain to wipe and air dry theunit before reuse.
