Each tab(General, Time, Units, Location, Alarms, Interface)contains the settings that determines how the unitfunctions. To select a tab, highlight the tab name usingthe ROCKER key (right/left). To select a data field ona tab, use the ROCKER key (up/down) to highlight theselection and press ENTER. To restore the GPSMAP76 setup menu to the factory settings, press MENU andwith Restore Defaults highlighted press ENTER.General TabThe General tab contains settings for the ReceiverMode, WAAS, Backlight Time Out, Beeper, andlanguage. To change a setting highlight the fieldand press ENTER. Make your selection using theROCKER key and press ENTER to activate.Mode—selections are Normal, Battery Saver,and SimulatorNormal—is the default mode set from the factory. Usethis setting for the best performance.Battery Saver—optimizes the receiver to save batterypower. When in the Battery Saver mode, you mayexperience slower screen updates, but should notice asignificant increase in battery life. The unit does notreceive WAAS in Battery Saver Mode.Simulator—turns the GPS receiver off and the unitsimulates satellite reception. Use the Simulator modeto practice indoors with the unit.WAAS—is an acronym for “Wide Area AugmentationSystem.” The WAAS capability of the GPSMAP 76increases the accuracy to approximately 3 meters.When enabled, the GPS receiver searches for WAASsatellites. The WAAS satellite sends data that helpscorrect differentials in the GPS signal. When the unitis using WAAS data, a “D” appears in the SatelliteStrength Indicators on the GPS Information page, andthe receiver status indicates a 2D or 3D DifferentialLocation.
