14GPSmap 76CSGPS NavigationThe Compass PageUsing the Compass PageThe Compass Page is your guide to accurate and efficient navigation. Ituses traditional navigation displays to provide navigation information.Whenever navigation is in progress, the Compass Page provides navi-gation data and directions. It uses a graphic compass ring and a bearing/course pointer along with digital data fields to display information suchas current speed, distance to the next point on the route, estimated arrivaltime, etc. You can choose from three or four data fields and select thetype of data displayed in each from a list of options. The rotating compass ring indicates the direction you are heading. TheBearing/Course Pointer indicates the direction (bearing) to your destina-tion, relative to your current heading direction. The compass ring andbearing pointer work independently to show your direction of movementand the direction to your destination. You can choose a Bearing Pointer orCourse Pointer for guidance. The compass ring is an electronic compass that functions like a mag-netic compass when you are stationary. However, when you are movingand reach a pre-set speed, it uses data from the GPS receiver to maintainyour heading. When you stop (after a pre-set time), it again operates likea magnetic compass. The compass ring is especially helpful when using apaper map or chart in conjunction with your GPSmap 76CS for naviga-tion. When the electronic compass is On, a compass icon appears in thestatus bar at the top of the display.
