Quick-Start1Battery/Map CardInstallationBattery/Map Data Card InstallationThe StreetPilot operates on six (6) AA batteries, which are installed from the left end of the unit,as viewed from the front. Alkaline, rechargeable NiCad, or Lithium batteries may be used. For extendedoperation, use the cigarette lighter adapter to conserve batteries. The on-screen battery level indicatormay be calibrated for Alkaline or NiCad batteries, but will not be totally accurate when using lithiumbatteries. To install batteries and a map data card:1. Lift up the metal D-ring at the end of the unit rotating ¼ turn anti-clockwise to open thecompartment door.2. Install the batteries (picture at right). It is very important to install ALL batteries with the properpolarity, positive (+) and negative (-) orientation, as indicated by the markings molded into therubber base of the unit and inside the battery compartment door. Do not mix new batteries withused batteries. Do not mix Alkaline with Lithium or NiCad rechargeable batteries.3. If you are using an optional Map Data Card with detailed map data or if you plan totransfer map data from a MapSource ® CD-ROM, plug a blank card into the slot next tothe battery compartment, with the label facing toward the front of the StreetPilot (picture at right).4. Close the battery compartment door and lock in place by turning the D-ring ¼ turn clockwise, then return the ring to the flush position.Battery life may vary due to a variety of factors, including ambient temperature and use ofbacklighting. You may find that Lithium batteries provide longer life in colder conditions. Data isretained in memory by an internal Lithium battery when the AA batteries are removed.Map Data Cards may be purchased from your GARMIN dealer or directly from GARMIN. Up to 50maps may be downloaded to a blank card using a GARMIN MapSource CD-ROM and following instructionsprovided with the MapSource CD-ROM. Refer to Appendix A for Card and MapSource ordering information.WarningImproper battery installation may causepersonal injury or property damage and/orbattery leakage.CautionMake certain the connector end of the DataCard is inserted into the cartridge slot, NOT theextractor handle end. Improper installation canresult in internal damage to your StreetPilotUnit. When properly inserted, the cartridge willprotrude slightly from the slot (not flush).Compartment DoorMap DataCardAA BatteriesSECTION 2
