50RRPP ring groupTo reduce Edge-Hello traffic, you can configure a group of subrings on the edge node orassistant-edge node. For information about Edge-Hello packets, see RRPPDUs. You must configurea switch as the edge node of these subrings, and another switch as the assistant-edge node ofthese subrings. Additionally, the subrings of the edge node and assistant-edge node must connectto the same SRPTs in major ring, so that Edge-Hello packets of the edge node of these subringstravel to the assistant-edge node of these subrings over the same link.An RRPP ring group configured on the edge node is called an edge node RRPP ring group, andan RRPP ring group configured on an assistant-edge node is called an assistant-edge node RRPPring group. Up to one subring in an edge node RRPP ring group is allowed to send Edge-Hellopackets.RRPPDUsTable 16 shows the types of RRPPDUs and their functions.Table 16 RRPPDU types and their functionsType DescriptionHello The master node initiates Hello packets to detect the integrity of a ring in anetwork.Fast-Hello The master node initiates Fast-Hello packets to detect the integrity of a ring in anetwork fast.Link-DownThe transit node, the edge node, or the assistant-edge node initiates Link-Downpackets to notify the master node of the disappearance of a ring in case of alink failure.Common-Flush-FDBThe master node initiates Common-Flush-FDB packets to instruct the transitnodes to update their own MAC entries and ARP/ND entries when an RRPPring transits to Disconnect state. FDB is short for Forwarding Database.Complete-Flush-FDBThe master node initiates Complete-Flush-FDB packets to instruct the transitnodes to update their own MAC entries and ARP/ND entries, and releaseblocked ports from being blocked temporarily when an RRPP ring transits toHealth state.Edge-Hello The edge node initiates Edge-Hello packets to examine the SRPTs between theedge node and the assistant-edge node.Fast-Edge-Hello The edge node initiates Fast-Edge-Hello packets to examine the SRPTs betweenit and the assistant-edge node fast.Major-FaultThe assistant-edge node initiates Major-Fault packets to notify the edge node ofSRPT failure when an SRPT between edge node and assistant-edge node is torndown.RRPPDUs of subrings are transmitted as data packets in the primary ring, while RRPPDUs of the primary ringcan only be transmitted within the primary ring.
