18OPERATION MANUALDo not use the quill powerfeed at speeds above 2700 R.P.M. It is recommend-ed to disengage the power feed worm gear when-ever the power feed is not required. This avoidsunnecessary wear on the worm gear.Do not move the QuillFeed Lever unless the motor is at a complete stop. When changing the lever position, do it gently. The quill feed lever is located on the right sideof the mill head (Fig. 9). It is used to engage anddisengage the quill power feed mechanism. The quill feed is engaged by pulling out the knoband rotating the handle to a new locked posi-tion. When engaged, the power feed mechanismwill drive the spindle upward or downward. Thepower feed mechanism will not drive the spindlewhen the handle is in the disengage position.Feed Clutch LeverThe Feed clutch Lever (A, Fig. 11) is located on theleft side of the head behind the Manual Fine FeedHandwheel (B, Fig. 11). It engages the overloadclutch on the pinion shaft when positioned tothe left. The Feed Clutch Lever stays engageduntil Quill Stop (C, Fig. 14) comes in contact withMicrometer Adjusting Nut, forcing it to drop outautomatically, or until the operator releases itmanually by moving the lever to the right.Fig. 9Feed Rate LeverThe Feed Rate Lever (Fig. 10) is used to set thequill feed per-revolution rate. Three feed rates areavailable: 0.04mm,-0.08mm, and 0.15mm per rev-olution. The positions are shown on an indicatorplate under the feed rate lever. The rate is selected by pulling out the knob onthe feed rate lever and moving the handle to thedetent of the desired feed rate.NOTE: The knob is spring loaded – pull out to ro-tate to new position. Unlike other controls on themachine, the lever shifts into engagement moreeasily with the motor running, and the quill feedlever engagedQuill Feed LeverFig. 10Fig. 11Feed Direction ControlThe Feed Direction Control (B. Fig. 12) determineswhether the power feed will move up, down, ornot move at all. The position of the knob dependsupon the direction of spindle rotation (see theMotor Switch section). The position of the controlmay be changed with either the motor stoppedor running. If the control does not engage easily, move the fine feed handle (A. Fig, 12) back andforth to aid engagement. If the spindle is rotating clockwise, the IN positionis downfeed; The OUT position is upfeed. Whenthe spindle is reversed the feed will also reverse. The neutral position is between the IN and OUTposition
