20OPERATION MANUALSpindle Downfeed OperationThe Feed Trip Adjustment sets the point at whichthe quill will reset during Power Feed.Referring to Fig. 16:The Manual Fine Feed Handwheel can be removed, but if not removered care should be taken whenthe auto feed is used so as not to make contactwith the wheel while it is turning.1. Loosen the Locknut (J).2. Using the Quill Feed Handle (K), advance thequill to the point where the feed should stop.3. Engage the Feed Trip Cam Lever (D) by pullingaway from head assembly.4. Adjust Micrometer Adjusting Nut (I) againstQuill Stop (H).5. Continue turning the Micrometer AdjustingNut (I) until the Feed Trip Cam Lever (D) trips.6. Tighten the Locknut (J).7. Ensure the Quill Lock (L) is off by rotatingcounter clockwise.8. Turn the spindle on (A):FWD rotates the spindle counterclockwise.REV rotates the spindle clockwise.9. Select the feed rate with the Variable SpeedControl Handwheel (F).10. Set the Feed Rate Lever (Fig. 17) to the feedrate required for the tooling and materialrequired.11. Position auto-downfeed direction pin (see “C”Fig. 16) in center of handwheel for spindletravel that is correct for your operation. If necessary, rock fine downfeed handwheelback-and-forth to move pin all the way in orout.12. Select feed direction by setting the FeedDirection Knob (C) position per the table:NOTE: The direction pin has three positions:1) In for one downfeed direction,2) middle for neutral or no movement,3) out for the reverse direction. The direction ofspindle travel for the in and out positions is relativeto the direction of spindle rotation. Keep in mindthat spindle rotation and downfeed directionwill reverse when the spindle speed range ischanged.Spindle Direction Feed Direction Knob PositionClockwise Down InUp OutCounter Clockwise Down OutUp In13. Engage the Feed Trip Cam Lever (D) bypulling away from head assembly.NOTE: Due to variables in tool diameter, coatings, coolant, and materials, no specific spindle speedor feed rate recommendations are provided. Referto Fitting and Machining manual ( Hafco CodeL341) or a general shop manual that has dataapplicable to the milling and drilling operationsbeing performed.Fig. 16Fig. 17
