SECTION 4SOFTWARE INTERFACEThis section describes the details of the serial port commands throughwhich the HI-203E is controlled and monitored. The serial portcommands allow users to set the receiver parameters, configure outputmessage type, and retrieve status information. The baud rate andprotocol of the host COM port must match the baud rate and protocol ofthe GPS receiver serial port for commands and data to be successfullytransmitted and received. The default receiver protocol is 4800baud, 8data bits, 1 stop bit, and none parity.4.1 NMEA OUTPUT MESSAGE SPECIFICATIONThe HI-203E supports NMEA-0183 output format as defined by theNational Marine Electronics Association (http://www.nmea.org). Thecurrently supported NMEA messages for GPS applications are:GGAGLLGSAGSVRMCVTG4.1.1 NMEA Checksum CalculationThe optional NMEA checksum can be enabled or disabled when settingup the NMEA protocol. The checksum consists of a "*" and twohexidecimal digits derived by exclusive-OR of all the charactersbetween, but not inlcuding, the "$" and "*" characters.Global Positioning System Fix DataGeographic Position Latitude / LongitudeGNSS DOP and Active SatellitesGNSS Satellites in ViewRecommended Minimum Specific GNSS DataCourse Over Ground and Ground Speed12
