HAMWORTHY HEATING LTD3SPETISBURY 500001118/C3.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS3.1 Related Documents.Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations1994 – (As amended). It is the law that all gasappliances are installed by competent persons, inaccordance with the above regulations. Failure toinstall appliances correctly could lead toprosecution. It is in your own interest, and that of safety, toensure that this law is complied with. The installation of the boiler MUST be in accordancewith the relevant requirements of the Gas SafetyRegulations, Building Regulations, I.E.E. Regulationsand the bylaws of the local water undertaking. The installation should also be in accordance with anyrelevant requirements of the local gas region and localauthority and the relevant recommendations of thefollowing documents :-British StandardsBS.5854 - Code of practice for flues and fluestructures in buildings. See para 5 (3.6).BS.6644 - Specification for installation of gas firedhot water boilers of rated inputs between 60kW and2MW.BS.6700 - Design, Installation, testing andmaintenance of services supplying water fordomestic use.BS.6880 - Code of practice for low temperature hotwater heating systems of output greater than 45kW.Part 1: Fundamentals & design considerations.Part 2: Selection of equipment.Part 3: Installation, commissioning & maintenance.BS 7074 - Application, selection and installation ofexpansion vessels and ancillary equipment for sealedwater systems. Part 2: Code of practice for low andmedium temperature hot water systems.BS.CP342 - Code of practice for centralised hotwater supply. Part 2: Buildings other than individualdwellings.I. Gas E. Details of additivescan be obtained from any reliable manufacturer ofwater treatment products or the local waterauthority. It should be noted however, that even if the boiler wateris of average hardness, not requiring treatment, subsequent draining of the system for repair or constantmake-up water due to an undetected leak will causeadditional deposits and gradual build-up of scale. It isessential therefore, that leaks are attended to promptlyand draining is kept to an absolute minimum. It is recommended that the system be flushed out atleast twice before any water treatment is added. Ifany doubt exists regarding the internal cleanlinessof an old system, consideration should be given tothe fitting of a coarse filter in the return pipework tothe boiler(s).3.3 Adequate Water FlowCare should be taken in the initial design and layouthaving due regard for adequate water flow through theboilers and the influence of the system controls. It is recommended that the system design shouldensure a minimum return temperature of 50 °C.If the temperature/flow rates of the applicationcannot meet those given in Figure 3.1 it may benecessary to incorporate mixing valves and shuntpumps to ensure that the boiler will operatesatisfactorily. Figure 3.1 shows recommended andminimum water flows required with the associatedpressure losses. The control system and valves, where fitted, should be regulated to avoid lowerflows occurring.3.4 Time Clock ControlIn order to avoid local overheating and progressivecalcium deposition at zero flow conditions whereboilers are operated from time clocks, provisionshould be made for a 5 minute circulating pumpover-run after the last boiler has ceased firing.
