Freezing foods / storing frozen foods Page GB-13Freezing foods / storing frozen foodsWARNINGDanger of explosion!Improper handling of the appliancemay lead to an explosion.■ Do not store explosive substances orspray cans with fl ammable propel-lants inside the appliance, as theymay cause ignitable gas-air mixturesto explode.CAUTIONHealth hazard!Incorrect handling, insufficient cool-ing or overlapping items can spoil thestored food. This could lead to a risk offood poisoning when consumed!■ In particular, pack raw meat and fishcarefully to ensure that adjacentfood cannot be contaminated by sal-monella or similar bacteria.■ Abide by the storage times recom-mended by food manufacturers.■ Note that the shelf life of the frozenfood may be shortened due to a risein the temperature inside the appli-ance (from defrosting, cleaning orpower failure).■ In case of prolonged power failureor appliance malfunction, removestored frozen food from the appli-ance and store it in a sufficiently coolplace or in another refrigerating ap-pliance (maximum storage time incase of malfunction: 13 hours).■ After a malfunction, check wheth-er the stored food is still edible. Con-sume thawed and defrosted foodsimmediately, do not refreeze.Risk of injury!Improper handling of the appliancemay result in injury. Risk of burns causedby low temperatures.■ The food and the inside walls of thefreezer compartment have a very lowtemperature. Never touch them withwet hands. This can cause injury tothe skin. Skin damage can occur evenwith dry skin.■ Let ice cubes or ice lollies thaw a lit-tle before eating, do not put into yourmouth straight from the freezer area.Freezing foodFreezing means reducing the core tempera-ture of fresh, room-temperature food to fro-zen as quickly as possible – for best results“flash-frozen”. If not cooled quickly enough, the food will be “killed by frost”, i.e. the struc-ture will be destroyed. A constant storagetemperature of -18° C is needed to maintainthe food’s consistency, taste and nutritionalvalue.Preparing the food• Only freeze high quality food.• Freeze fresh and prepared food dry andunseasoned. Unsalted foods are moredurable.• Allow prepared food to cool before freez-ing. This not only saves power, but alsoprevents excessive frost formation in thefreezer area.• Carbonated drinks are not suitable forfreezing because the carbon dioxide es-capes during freezing.
