PROGRAMMING THE REMOTE 43Transport Control Punch-ThroughThe AVR’s remote may be programmed to operateso that the Transport Control Functions P(Play, Stop, Fast Forward, Rewind, Pause andRecord) for a VCR, DVD or CD will operate in con-junction with one of the other devices controlledby the remote. For example, while using and con-trolling the TV, you may wish to start or stop yourVCR or DVD without having to change the deviceselected by the AVR or the remote. To program theremote for Transport Control Punch-Through, fol-low these steps:1. Press the Input Selector 4 for the deviceyou wish to have the channel control associatedwith and the Mute button , at the same timeuntil the red light illuminates, under the InputSelector 4 and the Program/SPL Indicator2 flashes amber.2. Press the Play button P. The Program/SPLIndicator 2 will stop flashing and stay amber.3. Press and release the AVR 5 or InputSelector button 4 for the device that will beused to change the channels. The Program/SPLIndicator 2 will blink green three times andthen go out to confirm the data entry.Example: To control the transport of a CD playerwhile the remote is set to control the TV, press theVID 2/TV Input Selector button 4 and theMute button , at the same time. Next, releasethem and press the Play button P, followedby the CD Input Selector button 4.NOTE: To remove the Channel Control Punch-Through and return the remote to its original con-figuration, repeat the steps shown in the exampleabove. However, press the same Input Selectorin Steps 1 and 3.NOTE: Before programming the remote forVolume, Channel or Transport Punch-Through,make certain that any programming needed forthe specific TV, CD, DVD, Cable or SatelliteReceivers has been completed.Reassigning Device-ControlSelectorsAlthough any of the Input Selectors 4 is nor-mally assigned to the category of product shownon the remote, it is possible to reassign one ofthese buttons to operate a second device ofanother type. For example, if you have two VCRsbut no tape, you may program the TAPE 4 but-ton to operate a second VCR. Before you can startyou must find out the three-digit code numberfor your second device (your second VCR) tooperate, as outlined on page 40. Then reassignthe TAPE 4 button with the following steps:1. Press the Input Selector 4 you wish toreassign and the Mute button , at the sametime until the red light illuminates under the InputSelector 4 and the Program/SPL Indicator2 flashes amber.2. Press the Input Selector 4 for the device,whose function you wish to program into the reas-signed button.3. Enter the three-digit code for the specificmodel you wish the reassigned button to operate.4. Press the same Input Selector 4 pressed inStep 1 once again to store the selection. The redLED under the re-assigned Input Selector will flashthree times and then go out.Example: To use the TAPE 4 button to oper-ate a second VCR, first press the TAPE InputSelector 4 and the Mute button , at thesame time until the red light glows under theTAPE 4 button. Press the VCR 4 button, fol-lowed by the three-digit code for the specificmodel you wish to control. Finally, press the TAPE4 button again.Important Note: Only those Input Selectorbuttons 4 can be reassigned that replaceother buttons for devices of the same kind. Sothe bottons for DVD, CD, TAPE and VCR (deviceswith transport functions) can replace one anotheras the Selectors for TV, CBL/SAT, andVID 4.To remove the Reassign function and return theremote to its original configuration, repeat steps1, 3 and 4 above (not 2), however, press thesame Input Selector button 4 in steps 1 and4 (i.e. re-program the button with itsoriginal code).Resetting the Remote MemoryAs you add components to your home-theatersystem, occasionally you may wish to totally repro-gram the remote control without the confusion ofany commands, macros or ”Punch-Through“programming that you may have done. To do this,it is possible to reset the remote to the originalfactory defaults and command codes by followingthese steps. Note, however, that once the remoteis reset, all commands or codes that you haveentered will be erased and will need to be re-entered:1. Press any of the Input Selector buttons 4and the ”O“ button H at the same time untilthe Program/SPL Indicator 2 begins to flashamber.2. Press the ”3“ button H three times.3. The red LED under the Input Selector 4 willgo out and the Program/SPL Indicator 2 willstop flashing and turn green.4. The Program/SPL Indicator 2 will remaingreen until the remote is reset. Note that this maytake a while, depending on how many commandsare in the memory and need to be erased.5. When the Program/SPL Indicator 2 goesout, the remote has been reset to the factorysettings.Programming the Remote
