MULTIROOM OPERATION 35MULTIROOM OPERATIONMULTIROOM OPERATIONThe AVR 335 is fully equipped to operate as the con-trol center for a complete multiroom system that iscapable of sending one source to a second zone inthe house while a separate source is listened to in themain room. In addition to providing for control over theselection of the remote source and its volume, theAVR 335 offers a comprehensive range of options forpowering the speakers in the second zone.n Using the line-level Multiroom Audio Outputs ¡,the selected source may be fed to optional, exter-nal power amplifiers that may be matched to thespecifics of the installation.n When the main room system is configured for 5.1operation, the Surround Back Left/Right amplifierchannels may be used to power the remote zoneso that no additional amplifiers are required. In addition, the AVR 335 includes a remote IR sensorinput so that remote control commands from theZone II remote included with the unit may be transmittedto the unit, while standard IR input/output jacks allowthe remote zone’s commands to be sent to compatibleIR-controlled source devices.InstallationAlthough simple remote room systems may beinstalled by the average do-it-yourself hobbyist, thecomplexity of your multizone/multiroom systeminvolves running wires inside of walls where theservices of a specially trained installer may berequired. Regardless of who does the work, pleaseremember that local building codes may governin-wall electrical work, including proper specification ofany wiring used and the way in which it is connected. You are responsible for making certain that all multi-room installation work is done properly and incompliance with all applicable codes and regulations. For standard installations, follow the instructions shownon page 14 for the connection of speaker wire and IRremote wiring to the AVR 335.For installations where the Surround Back Left/Rightamplifier channels are used to power the remote zone, make certain that the system is configured for thattype of operation.Multiroom SetupOnce the audio and IR link connections have beenmade, the AVR 335 needs to be configured for multi-room operation. Press the OSD Button v to bringthe MASTER MENU (Figure 1) to the screen.Press the ¤ Button n, until the on-screen › cur-sor is next to the MULTI-ROOM line. Press theSet Button p to enter the MULTI-ROOMmenu (Figure 14).Figure 14When the MULTI-ROOM menu appears, theon-screen › cursor will be at the MULTI-ROOMline. Since this line is used to turn the system on andoff, don’t make an adjustment here unless you wish toturn the system on at this time. To turn the system on,press the › Button o so that ON is shown. If youdo not wish to turn the system on at this time, or toproceed to the next step, press the ¤ Button nonce so that the › on-screen cursor is next to theMULTI IN line.At the MULTI IN line, press the ‹/› Buttonso until the desired input to the multiroomsystem appears. When the selection has been made, press the ¤ Button n once so that the › on-screen cursor is next to the MULTI VOL line.At the MULTI VOL line, press the ‹/› Buttonso until the desired volume level for the multiroomsystem is entered. DO NOT use the regular volumecontrol knobs for this setting.Surround Amplifier Channel AssignmentThe AVR 335 is equipped with seven full-poweramplifier channels to allow for complete 7.1-channeloperation without the need for additional externalamplifiers. However, in some installations you may wishto use the traditional 5.1-channel configuration for themain listening room, which allows the surround backleft/right amplifier channels to be used to powerspeakers placed in a remote zone location. If you wish to use the Surround Back channel ampli-fiers to power the remote zone, you must change asetting in the MULTIROOM SETUP menu.To make that change, first call up the menu systemby pressing the OSD Button v to bring theMASTER MENU (Figure 1) to the screen. Next, press the ¤ Button n until the › cursor is next tothe MULTIROOM line. Press the Set Buttonp to enter the MULTI-ROOM SETUPmenu (Figure 14).To change the setting so that the Surround Backamplifiers are fed by the source selected throughthe Multiroom system, press the ‹/› Buttons oso that MR SP appears; then press the SetButton p.Remember that once this setting is made, you will notbe able to take advantage of any of the 6.1/7.1-channel decoding or processing modes, and that thespeakers used for the remote zone must be connectedto the Surround Back/Multiroom Speaker Outputs‚. The volume for these speakers is set by themultiroom system.Once this setting is made, you may press the ¤Button n to make any of the other adjustmentsavailable on this menu. If no other adjustments areneeded, press the OSD Button v to exit themenu system. When all settings for the multiroomsetup have been made, press the ⁄/¤ Buttonsn until the on-screen › cursor is next to theBACK TO MASTER MENU line. If you haveno other adjustments to make, press the OSD Buttonv to exit the menu system.Multiroom OperationWhen operating the AVR 335 from a remote roomlocation where an IR sensor link has been connectedto the AVR 335’s rear-panel Multiroom IR Input ∞,you may use either the main remote control or theZone II remote. To turn on the multiroom feed, pressany of the Input Selector buttons on the Zone IIremote ç∂ or the main remote eg. Pressthe AVR Selector f∫ to turn the unit on to thelast source, or any of the other Selector buttons toturn on to a specific source. As long as an IR feed to the AVR 335 has beenestablished from the remote room, using any of thebuttons on either remote will control the remote loca-tion volume î, change the tuner frequencyuÉ, change the tuner preset © or mutethe output ˚.If the Remote IR Output Jack § on the AVR 335is connected to an IR Input jack on compatibleHarman Kardon audio components such as CD, DVDor cassette players, the transport functions of thosemachines may also be controlled using the TransportControls `ƒ˙∆ on either remote control.3334353637383940414849464744454243383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 3137363534333248495051474645444342333435363738394041484946474445424333443132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 313736353433323334353637383940414849464744454243383940413132302829252627282930242322212031373635343332 3137363534333248495051474645444342* M U L T I - R O O M *M U L T I - R O O M : O F FM U L T I I N : F M P R E S E T 0 1M U L T I V O L : Ð 2 5 d BS B A M P S : M A I NB A C K T O M A S T E R M E N U
