39 PROGRAMMING THE REMOTEProgramming the RemoteNote that the numbers used to describe the but-ton functions at the left for the purposes ofdescribing how a button operates are a differentset of numbers than those used in the rest of thismanual to describe the button functions for theAVR 510.Notes on Using the AVR 510 Remote WithOther Devices.• Manufacturers may use different code sets forthe same product category. For that reason, itis important that you check to see whether thecode set you have entered operates as manycontrols as possible. If it appears that only afew functions operate, check to see whetheranother code set will work with more buttons.• When a button is pressed on the AVR 510remote, the red light under the InputSelector e for the product being operatedshould flash briefly. If the Device ControlSelector flashes for some but not all buttonsfor a particular product, it does NOT indicate aproblem with the remote but rather that nofunction is programmed for the button beingpushed.Volume Punch-ThroughThe AVR 510’s remote may be programmed tooperate the Volume Control and Mutefunctions of either the TV or the AVR 510 inconjunction with any of the devices controlled bythe remote. For example, since the AVR 510 willlikely be used as the sound system for TV view-ing, you may wish to have the AVR 510’s volumeactivated, although the remote is set to run theTV. Either the AVR 510 or TV volume control maybe associated with any of the remote’s devices.To program the remote for Volume Punch-Through, follow these steps:1. Press the Input Selector e for the unit youwish to have associated with the volume con-trol and the Mute button at the sametime until the red light appears under theInput Selector e and note that theProgram/SPL Indicator c will flash amber.2. Press the Volume Up button and notethat the Program/SPL Indicator c willstop flashing and stay amber.3. Press either the AVR Selector f or theInput Selector e, depending on whichsystem’s volume control you wish to haveattached for the punch-through mode. TheProgram/SPL Indicator c will blink greenthree times and then go out to confirm thedata entry.Example: To have the AVR 510’s volumecontrol activated even though the remote isset to control the TV, first press the Video/TVInput Selector e and the Mute buttonat the same time. Next, press theVolume Up button , followed by theAVR Selector f.NOTE: Should you wish to return the remote tothe original configuration after entering a VolumePunch-Through, you will need to repeat the stepsshown above. However, press the same InputSelector in Steps 1 and 3.Channel Control Punch-ThroughThe AVR 510’s remote may be programmed tooperate so that the channel control function foreither the TV, cable or satellite receiver used inyour system may be used in conjunction with oneof the other devices controlled by the remote. Forexample, while using and controlling the VCR, youmay wish to change channels on a cable box orsatellite receiver without having to change thedevice selected by the AVR 510 or the remote. Toprogram the remote for Channel Control Punch-Through, follow these steps:1. Press the Input Selector button e for thedevice you wish to have the channel controlassociated with and the Mute button atthe same time until the red light appears underthe Input Selector e and the Program/SPL Indicator c flashes amber.2. Press the Volume Down button . TheProgram/SPL Indicator c will stop flash-ing and stay amber.3. Press and release the Input Selector buttone for the device that will be used to changethe channels. The Program/SPL Indicatorc will blink green three times and then goout to confirm the data entry.Example: To control the channels using yourCable Box or Satellite Receiver while theremote is set to control the VCR, first press theVID 1/VCR Input Selector button e andthe Mute button at the same time. Next,release them and press the Volume Downbutton , followed by the VID 2/TV InputSelector button e.NOTE: To remove the Channel Control Punch-Through and return the remote to its original con-figuration, repeat the steps shown in the exampleabove. However, press the VID 1/VCR InputSelector in Steps 1 and 3.Transport Control Punch-ThroughThe AVR 510’s remote may be programmed tooperate so that the Transport Control Functionsx (Play, Stop, Fast Forward, Rewind, Pause andRecord) for a VCR, DVD or CD will operate in con-junction with one of the other devices controlledby the remote. For example, while using and con-trolling the TV, you may wish to start or stop yourVCR or DVD without having to change the deviceselected by the AVR 510 or the remote. To pro-gram the remote for Transport Control Punch-Through, follow these steps:1. Press the Input Selector e for the deviceyou wish to have the channel control associ-ated with and the Mute button at thesame time until the red light appears under theInput Selector e and the Program/ SPLIndicator c flashes amber.2. Press the Play button x. The Program/SPLIndicator c will stop flashing and stayamber.3. Press and release the Input Selector buttone for the device that will be used to changethe channels. The Program/SPL Indicatorc will blink green three times and then goout to confirm the data entry.Example: To control the transport of a DVDplayer while the remote is set to control the TV,first press the VID 2/TV Input Selector but-ton eand the Mute button at thesame time.
