22 SYSTEM CONFIGURATIONSystem ConfigurationAudio SetupThis menu allows you to configure the tone con-trols and to turn the upsampling on or off. If youdo not wish to change any of those settings atthis time, proceed to the next menu screen. However, to make configuration changes to thoseparameters, make certain that the MASTERMENU is on the screen with the cursor point-ing to the AUDIO SETUP line, and press theSet Button F. The AUDIO SETUP menu(Figure 3) will appear.Figure 3The first line controls whether or not the bass/tre-ble tone controls are in the signal path. The nor-mal default is for them to be in-line, but if youwish to remove them from the circuit for “flat”response, first make certain that the cursor ispointing to the TONE line on the menu and pressthe ‹/› Navigation Button E so that OUTis highlighted in reverse video. If you wish to leave the tone controls in the signalpath, the amount off boost or cut for bass andtreble may be adjusted by pressing the ⁄/¤Navigation Button E so that the cursor isnext to the line for the setting you wish to adjust.Next, press the ‹/› Navigation Button Euntil the desired setting is shown. This menu also includes a setting to turn the unit’supsampling feature on or off. In normal use, thisfeature is turned off, which means that digitalsources are processed at their native sample rate. For example, a 48kHz digital source will beprocessed at 48kHz. However, the AVR allows youto upsample the incoming 48kHz signals to 96kHzfor added resolution. To take advantage of this feature, press the ⁄/¤Navigation Button E so that the cursor isnext to the UPSAMPLING line and press the‹/› Navigation Button E so that O N ishighlighted in reverse video. Note that this featureis only available for the Dolby Pro Logic II-Music,Dolby Pro Logic II Movie, Dolby Pro Logic andDolby 3 Stereo modes. When all desired changes have been made on thismenu, press the ⁄/¤ Navigation Button Eso that the cursor is next to the BACK T OMAIN MENU line and press the Set ButtonF.Speaker SetupThis menu tells the AVR which type of speakersare in use. This is important as it adjusts the set-tings that determine which speakers receive low-frequency (bass) information. For each of thesesettings use the LARGE setting if the speakersfor a particular position are traditional full-rangeloudspeakers that are capable of reproducingsounds below 40Hz. Use the SMALL setting forsmaller, frequency-limited satellite speakers thatdo not reproduce sounds below 40Hz. Note thatwhen “small” speakers are used, a subwoofer isrequired to reproduce low-frequency sounds.Remember that the “large” and “small” descrip-tions do not refer to the actual physical size of thespeakers, but to their ability to reproduce low-fre-quency sounds. If you are in doubt as to whichcategory describes your speakers, consult thespecifications in the speakers’ owner’s manual, orask your dealer. This menu screen also allows you to enter the set-tings for the AVR’s Quadruple Crossover featurethat allows a different crossover point to be usedfor the front left/right, center, surround and sur-round back speakers. In systems where full-rangeor tower speakers are used for the front sound-stage or where different brands or models are inuse at the various speaker positions, this featureallows you to custom tailor the bass managementand redirection circuits with a precision notpreviously possible. At last, this menu also makes you chose if thespeaker setting will be the same for each inputsource (GLOBAL), or will be set differently foreach input (INDEPENDENT).Notes:• When "Independent" is selected for the speakersettings (see below), they need to be made foreach input individually and you can determinewhich speaker should be used depending on theinput source selected. So it´s possible e.g. toturn off the Center and/or the Sub with anymusic source selected and to use them with anymovie input source.• With the currently selected input all speaker set-tings will be copied to all other surround modes(as far as speakers are used with them) andneed not be repeated when another surroundmode is selected with that input.First select any of the DTS Neo:6 modes as withthem all speakers and all speaker modes are avail-able. It is easiest to select these modes directly, without the on-screen display, so press the OSDbutton L to turn the on-screen display off if it isstill visible. Then press the DTS Neo:6 button on the remote. It is easiest to enter the proper settings for thespeaker setup through the SPEAKERSETUP menu (Figure 4). So press the OSDButton L to bring up the MASTER MENU(Figure 1), and then press the ¤ Button Etwice so that the cursor is on the SPEAKERSETUP line. At this point, press the Set ButtonF to bring up the SPEAKER SETUP menu(Figure 4).Figure 4The first line of the SPEAKER SETUP menu(Figure 4) allows you to switch the menu to changeeither the underlying speaker size setting or theexact crossover point used for that speaker group ifset to "Small". For the first pass through the menu, leave the setting at its default option of SIZE,and then proceed as outlined below. Once thespeaker choices have been set you may wish toreturn to this line to change the option so that thecrossover settings may be adjusted.1. Before you start the speaker setting, you shoulddetermine if you want all inputs being configuredwith the same speaker size setting (GLOBAL)or if all inputs should be configured individually(INDEPENDENT).To configure all inputs for "Global" or "Inde-pendent" press the ⁄ Button E twice so thatthe cursor is next to the BASS MGR line. This setting allows you to use the same speakerconfiguration for all inputs, or to have differentsettings for each input. In most cases the factorydefault setting of GLOBAL will be appropriate,as most listeners do not need to have individual-ized speaker settings. However, some listeners, particularly those with full-range front speakersthat are used for both movies and music may pre-fer that different speaker settings be used whenlistening to music through a CD player asopposed to a movie from a DVD player, VCR orcable/satellite set top.If you wish to customize the speaker size individu-ally to each input, make certain that the cursor ison the BASS MGR line and press the ‹/›Buttons E so that INDEPENDENTappears in highlighted video. When this setting isentered all speaker size settings will be shownwith their factory default size in the menu and allother inputs will turn to INDEPENDENT too.Now you should enter the speaker size settingsprefered for the input selected, as describedbelow. Remember that in this case the size set-tings just entered will apply to the current inputONLY, and you will need to go back to theIN/OUT menu to select another input, andthen return to this menu page again to changethe settings for the next input.
