24 SYSTEM CONFIGURATIONSystem Configurationmain front left/right speakers, regardless of thetype of program source or Surround mode youare listening to, press the ‹/› Buttons E onthe remote so that SUB L/R+LFE appearsin the on-screen menu. When this option isselected, a full-range signal will be sent to thefront left/right “main” speakers. The subwooferwill receive the front left and right bass frequen-cies under the crossover frequency selected inanother setting on this menu, as describedbelow, and also the LFE soundtrack.9. When all initial speaker “size” settings have beenmade, you now have the option to take advantageof the AVR’s Quadruple Crossover system, whichallows individual crossover settings to be made foreach speaker grouping set to "Small". The low-fre-quency crossover point is set by the design of yourspeakers. It is defined as the frequency which is thelowest possible frequency the speaker is capable ofreproducing. Before making any changes to the set-tings for the crossover point we suggest that youfind the crossover point for the speakers in each ofthe four groupings, front left/right, center, surroundand surround back by looking at the specificationspage of the speaker’s owner’s manual, by gettingthat information from the manufacturer’s Web site,or by contacting your dealer or the manufacturer’scustomer service department. You will need this fig-ure to accurately configure the next group of set-tings.The factory default setting for all speaker positions is100Hz. If that setting is acceptable for all channels, then no adjustments are needed and you may skipthis section. However, should you wish to changeone of the settings, please proceed by pressing the⁄ Button E so that the cursor moves back upto the top of the list of setting options. Press the ‹/›Buttons E so that X-OVER is highlightedand the menu data will change to the screen shownin Figure 5.Figure 5To change the setting for any of the four speakergroups Left/Right, Center, Surrounds or SurroundBack, press the ⁄/¤ Buttons E until the cur-sor is next to the line where you wish to make achange and then press the ‹/› Buttons Euntil the desired setting appears. The availablechoices at which point low-frequency informationwill be sent to the subwoofer (or to the FrontLeft/Right speakers in case subwoofer is set toOFF), rather than to the speaker channel, are40Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz and 200Hz.Pick the choice that is identical to the informationfor the speakers, or if an exact match is not possi-ble, pick the closest choice that is ABOVE thespeaker’s lowfrequency limit to avoid the creationof a low-frequency “hole” where your system willhave no bass information. In cases where LARGE has been selected as thefront channel speaker option and LFE+L/Rhas been selected as the subwoofer option, thefront channel sound information below the cross-over point selected for the L/R front speakers(when fronts are set to "Small") will be sent toBOTH the front channel speakers and the sub-woofer.When all speakers are set to LARGE thecrossover point for the fronts (selectable whenthey are set to "Small") will affect the LFE signaland the bass support for the front speakers by thesub (when the sub is set to L/R+LFE, see above)only. In that case the default value "100Hz"should be kept or selected for the crossover pointfor the L/R fronts (selectable when they are"Small") as it´s indicated (and marked by *)behind the LEFT/RIGHT line in the speakersetup menu when the X-OVER option is selected.10. When all speaker selections have been made, press the ¤ Button E until the cursor is nextto the BACK T O MASTER MENU line andpress the Set Button F to return to the Mainmenu.11. When only the inner icon box is lit, thespeaker is set for “small.” When the inner box andthe two outer boxes with circles inside them arelit, the speaker is set for “large." When no indica-tor appears at a speaker location, that position isset for “none” or “no” speaker.Note: These icons are available only whenmaking setup changes without the use of the fullOSD mode.As an example, in the Figure below, all speakersare set for “large,” and a subwoofer is set.Surround SetupOnce the speaker setup has been completed, thenext step for that input is to set the surroundmode you wish to use with that input. Since sur-round modes are a matter of personal taste, feelfree to select any mode you wish – you maychange it later. The Surround Mode chart on page29 may help you select the mode best suited tothe input source selected. For example you mayselect Dolby Pro Logic II or Logic 7 for most ana-log inputs and Dolby Digital for inputs connectedto digital sources. In the case of inputs such as aCD Player, Tape Deck or Tuner, you may wish to setthe mode to Stereo, if that is your preferred listen-ing mode for standard stereo sources, where it isunlikely that surround encoded material will beused. Alternatively, the 5 Channel Stereo or Logic 7Music mode may also be a good choice forstereo-only source material. It is easiest to complete the surround setup usingthe full-OSD on-screen menus. From theMASTER menu (Figure 1), press the ⁄/¤ but-tons E until the › cursor is next to theSURROUND SELECT menu.
