(7 m) range of theremote sensor on the front panel of theunit. Make sure that the remote's frontprojection “lens” as well as the REMOTESENSOR area on the front panel of theunit are kept free from dirt to ensureproper transmission and reception of theinfrared beam. Also make sure that noobjects (e.g., stereo cabinet doors, endtables) block the path from the remotecontrol to the REMOTE SENSOR area.Avoid using the remote control nearfluorescent lamps, as they may shortenits operating range.If your remote control will sit unused for along period of time, remove the batteriesto prevent damage from corrosion.REAR PANEL REMOTEJACKSThe remote control input jack allowsremote control of this unit via a cable.This cable can be connected to theremote control output jack of anotherHarman Kardon product. Alternatively, itcan be connected to an accessory devicethat converts infrared remote controlsignals into detected pulses. In addition, the remote controlprovides some functions that are notfound on the front panel.The functions found on the remotecontrol that are not found on the frontpanel are INTRO, A B, and the1-10 keys. These three functions aredescribed below (for other functions, seethe descriptions on page 4.)1. INTRO BUTTONThis button puts your compact discplayer in and out of INTRO SCAN mode.When INTRO SCAN is on and you pressPLAY, the unit plays only the first 15seconds of each track before moving onto the next. Press the button once to turnon INTRO SCAN mode; press again toturn it off and stop the scanning. Whenthe unit is in INTRO SCAN mode, theFUNCTION indicator (5) will display theword INTRO.2. NUMERIC BUTTONS (0 - 9)•••If you press the number that corre-sponds to your desired track with theNUMERIC buttons, the unit plays thattrack immediately without the PLAYbutton.To select a two digit track number, thesecond digit must be pressed withinabout 2 seconds after the first digithas been pressed.During programming, if you select thedesired track with the NUMERICbuttons, that track is programmedwithout the PROGRAM button.3.
