14 INSTALLATION AND CONNECTIONSInstallation and ConnectionsAfter unpacking the unit, and placing it on a solidsurface capable of supporting its weight, you willneed to make the connections to your audio andvideo equipment.Audio Equipment ConnectionsWe recommend that you use high-quality inter-connect cables when making connections tosource equipment and recorders to preserve theintegrity of the signals. When making connections to audio sourceequipment or speakers it is always a goodpractice to unplug the unit from the AC walloutlet. This prevents any possibility ofaccidentally sending audio or transient signals tothe speakers that may damage them.1. Connect the front, center and surround speakeroutputs to the respective speakers.Cables that are run inside walls should have theappropriate markings to indicate listing with anyappropriate testing agency standards. Questionsabout running cables inside walls should bereferred to your installer or a licensed electricianwho is familiar with the applicable local buildingcodes in your area. When connecting wires to the speakers, be cer-tain to observe proper polarity. Note that thepositive (+) terminal of each speaker connectionnow carries a specific color code. However, mostspeakers will still use a red terminal for the pos-tive (+) connection. Connect the “negative” or“black” wire to the same terminal on both thereceiver and the speaker. We also recommend that the length of cableused to connect speaker pairs be identical. Forexample, use the same length piece of cable toconnect the front-left and front-right or sur-round-left and surround-right speakers, even ifthe speakers are a different distance from theHS controller.2. Connections to the subwoofer are made via aline level audio connection from the SubwooferOutput to the line-level SUB input (purple)of the subwoofer. Connect at the same time theSubwoofer Trigger Output to the TriggerInput of the subwoofer.3. Connect the supplied FM antenna to the FM(75 ohm) connection . The FM antenna maybe an external roof antenna, an inside poweredor wire lead antenna or a connection from acable system. Note that if the antenna or connec-tion uses 300-ohm twin-lead cable, you shoulduse a 300-ohm-to-75-ohm adapter to make theconnection.Video Equipment ConnectionsVideo equipment is connected in the same manneras audio components. Again, the use of high-quality interconnect cables is recommended topreserve signal quality.Connecting the TV and optionalcomponentsNOTE: To be able to listen to the sound of a live TVshow through the loudspeakers of your HS systemyou need a connection between the audio outputof your TV and the HS controller: to achieve thiswhen using the supplied SCART cable, you don’tneed to connect any additional wires – the SCARTcable transports audio and video signals in bothdirections. But when using the HDMI, Component,S-Video or composite jacks you need to connect theaudio output of your TV set with the TV AUDIO IN on the back of your HS controller. If your TV hasa digital audio output, it is recommended to usethat one over the analog audio output. Connect thedigital output of your TV to the DIGITAL INon the back of your HS Controller.HDMI ConnectionIf your TV set is equipped with an HDMI input, wesuggest you use the HDMI connection to connectyour HS system and your TV. It will allow you towatch your DVD's in the best possible picturequality. Most LCD, Plasma and video projectorshave such an HDMI input nowadays. Connect theHDMI Output to the HDMI Input of your videodevice. The HDMI wire does not transport audio signalsfrom the TV to the HS, thus you need anadditional audio connection (see note above). If your TV set does not have an HDMI Input, pleasefollow one of the steps below to connect it to yourHS system or other video components.TV Connection (method 1)– using SCART cable (included)To view the video from DVD discs on your TV set, connect the SCART TV Out jack of the HSsystem to the SCART In jack of your TV set. Theaudio connection runs through the same cable(see note above).TV Connection (method 2) – using S-Videocable (not included)If your TV set has an S-Video input jack you canconnect your TV to the S-Video out jack on theback of the HS controller. S-Video wires don’ttransport audio signals, thus you need an addi-tional audio connection (see note above).TV connection (method 3) – usingcomposite video (cable not included)If your TV set has neither S-Video nor SCARTinput jacks, connect the Video Out jack of theHS to the Video In jack of your TV set. The com-posite wire also doesn’t transport audio signals, thus you need to make additional connections(see earlier note).Component Video Connection (method 4)If the video display has component video inputs, connect the Component Video Outputs onthe HS 300 to the corresponding input jacks onyour television. If you are using a progressivescan television or projector, you must alsochange the Scan Type in the DVD player's VideoSet-Up Menu from ”Interlaced” to”Progressive”.COMPONENTS INTV SETAUDIO OUTS-VIDEO INDIGITAL OUTTV SETAUDIO OUTHDMI INAUDIO OUTDIGITAL OUT
