18 SYSTEM SETUPSystem SetupSystem DefaultsThe final step of the installation is to establishthe system’s defaults. It is helpful to take a fewminutes to familiarize yourself with these set-tings, as they may require change before the firstuse and later from time to time.General Functionality of theOSD MenuThe complete setup and control of the HS 300takes place in an advanced user-guided OnScreen Display (OSD) menu system. The OSD canbe activated by pressing the OSD button 8 onthe remote control. Pressing this button againde-activates the OSD.The main menu consists of a PLAYER Menu,RADIO Menu, TV Menu, AUX Menu, DIGITALMenu, USB Menu and a SET-UP Menu. The PLAY-ER Menu will show all information and optionsavailable for the disc currently playing. TheRADIO Menu will show radio and RDS options.The TV, AUX and DIGITAL Menus show the sur-round options for these specific audio inputs. TheUSB Menu will show all information and optionsavailable when USB thumb devices or portablehard disks are connected. The SET-UP Menu willhelp you configure all audio and video settingswhich are normally only made once.Depending on how your HS system is connectedto your TV set, two different On Screen Displaysare available. When the HS is connected via anyof the standard definition connections (SCART,S-Video, Composite Video or standardComponent Video) the OSD will be icon-based.When the HS is connected via any of the high-definition connections (HDMI or high definitionComponent Video), the OSD will be text based. Inthe next chapters we will show both the stan-dard definition version and the high definitionversion to make the initial setup as easy aspossible.Many Menu's contain Submenus or text lines.These submenus are shown as icons on the leftside of the menu, depending on whether you arewatching the standard definition OSD or high-definition OSD. They can be highlighted by awhite square around the icon or text by movingthe cursor with the ARROW 9 buttons. Iconsor text can be activated by pressing ENTER 6when they are highlighted. When ENTER 6 hasbeen pressed, the color of the icon or the circlebehind the text will change to dark blue and youwill see that the current settings of this submenuwill appear on the right side of the menu.Although some Menus have various Submenusand Settings, they are all navigated in the sameway. All submenus, settings and options can beaccessed with the help of the ARROW (KLNM9) and ENTER 6 buttons on the remotecontrol.To change a setting, simply move the cursor tothe setting you wish to change. This setting willbe highlighted in a white square, and a briefexplanation will appear in the Upper Menu Lineon the bottom of your screen, together with theavailable options for this setting on the LowerMenu Line.Once the setting is highlighted, pressing ENTERwill show an M and N icon next to the currentsetting to indicate that the setting can bechanged by pressing the left or right ARROWButton 9. Press the ARROW Buttons 9 untilthe requested setting is shown, and confirm thissetting by pressing ENTER 6. First, makecertain that the HS Controller is properly connec-ted to a video display, and that power is connect-ed. For this process, however, you do not need toload a disc into the unit.During STOP, PAUSE or PLAY mode, if you pressOSD on the remote, the Main Menu appears onthe screen.This Main Menu and all menus in the followingsection may look different, listing the settingswith different languages, depending on the set-tings made previously. With the factory defaultsetting all languages are set to ”English”, that´swhy with all menus the English version is shownin the manual.In the SET-UP Menu you will find submenus formaking or changing all settings and adjustmentsfor both Audio and Video handling of yourHS 300.To access the SET-UP Menu, press the OSDbutton 8, and move the cursor to the rightuntil SET-UP is highlighted. Press ENTER 6 toactivate the SYSTEM Settings:System SettingsThe System Setting Submenu contains thefollowing settings. Follow the explanations in theUpper Menu Line on the bottom of your screento change the settings.Display Language: Sets the language in whichthe OSD menus are shown on your screen.Preferred Subtitle Language: Defines yourpreferred subtitle language. Every time a disccontains this subtitle language, it will be shownautomatically. If you do not find your preferredlanguage in the list of options, you can selectyour preferred language by selecting OTHER, andthan typing a 4-digit code found in the code liston page 27. You can also set the preferredsubtitle language to OFF. In that case no subtitleswill be shown.Panel Time-Out: Sets the time-out interval forthe Front Panel Information Display. After theselected time, the display will dim completely.Status Bar Time-Out: Sets the time-outinterval for the Status Bar, after which the StatusBar will disappear from the screen.Parental Control: Defines a password used tocontrol viewing of restricted programs. Thedefault password is 8888. After pressing thedefault password, either the parental control set-ting can be chosen, or a new password.
