10 CHANNEL CONFIGURATIONSChannel Configurations and Audio ConnectionsIn addition to the speaker connections, thefollowing steps must be followed for this con-figuration:• Connect the audio input source to the MainAmp Input Jacks ⁄.• Locate both the Bridge 1 Amplifier ModeSwitch ‡ and the Bridge 2 AmplifierMode Switch ° on the rear panel, and usea #1 Phillips screwdriver to carefully removethe screws on either side of the plastic switchguards that are around each of the switches.• Remove both plastic guards and set themaside with the screws.• Slide both switches to the left so each one isunder the word “BRIDGE”.• Replace the plastic switch guards with thetwo screws so that both switches are securedin their proper position.Figure 3Two Inputs/Four OutputsIn this configuration, there are four speaker pairoutputs, with three channels being fed by oneinput source and one channel being fed by asecond, separate source.Connect the speakers and audio inputs as fol-lows:• Connect the source that is to be fed to threespeakers to the Main Amp Input Jacks ⁄.The speakers that are to receive this signalshould be connected to the Channel 1Speaker Output Terminals ¢, theChannel 2 Speaker Output Terminals ∞and the Channel 4 Speaker OutputTerminals £ using the standard speakerwiring markings on the rear panel, as shownin Figure 1.• Connect the source that is to be fed to onlyone channel to the Channel 3 Input Jack›.• Move the Channel 3 Separate Switch ¤to the left so that it is under the word “ON”.• Connect the speaker pair that will receive theseparate input feed to the Channel 3Speaker Terminals ™ using the normalwiring connections and markings as shown inFigure 1.• Make no changes to the Amplifier ModeSwitches ‡/°. Leave them in their factorypositions with the switch over the word“NORMAL”.Two Inputs/Three OutputsIn this configuration, there are three speakerpair outputs, with one high-power and onelower-power pair receiving the same input, while a second, separate input is sent to anadditional speaker pair.Connect the speakers and audio inputs asfollows:• Connect the source that is to be fed to thehigh-power speaker set and the lower-powerspeaker set to the Main Amp Input Jacks⁄. Connect the higher-power speaker set asshown in Figure 2 to the speaker terminalsmarked “Bridge 1”. Make certain that theconnections for these speakers are made tothe proper “+” and “–“ terminals with thetwo vertically oriented binding posts on eachside of the channel pair, as opposed to thehorizontal orientation of normal speaker con-nections. DO NOT use the standard channeloutput and polarity markings for these speak-er connections.• The speaker set that is to receive the lowerpower signal should be connected to theChannel 4 Speaker Output Terminals £using the standard speaker wiring markingson the rear panel as shown in Figure 2.• Connect the source that is to be fed to onlyone channel to the Channel 3 Input Jack›.• Move the Channel 3 Separate Switch ¤to the left so that it is under the word “ON”.• Connect the speaker pair that will receive theseparate input feed to the Channel 3Speaker Terminals ™ using the normalwiring connections and markings as shown inFigure 1.• Locate the Bridge 1 Amplifier ModeSwitch ‡ on the rear panel, and use a #1Phillips screwdriver to carefully remove thescrews on either side of the plastic switchguard that is around the switch.• Remove the plastic guard and set it asidewith the screws.• Slide the switch to the left so that it is underthe phrase “BRIDGE 1”.• Replace the plastic switch guard with the twoscrews so that the switch is secured in theproper position. Two Inputs/Two OutputsIn this configuration, the PA 4000 acts as adual-stereo amplifier, with two separate signalsbeing sent to high-power amplifiers.Connect the speakers and audio inputs as follows:• Connect one input source to the Main AmpInput Jacks ⁄. Connect the speakers thatare to receive this signal to the speaker ter-minals marked “Bridge 1”, as shown inFigure 3. Make certain that the connectionsfor these speakers are made to the proper“+” and “–“ terminals with the two verticallyoriented binding posts on each side of thechannel pair, as opposed to the horizontal ori-entation of normal speaker connections. DONOT use the standard channel output andpolarity markings for these speaker connec-tions.• Connect the other input source to theChannel 3 Input Jack ›. Connect thespeakers that are to receive this signal to thespeaker terminals marked “Bridge 2”, asshown in Figure 3. Make certain that the con-nections for these speakers are made to theproper “+” and “–“ terminals with the twovertically oriented binding posts on each sideof the channel pair, as opposed to the hori-zontal orientation of normal speaker connec-tions. DO NOT use the standard channel out-put and polarity markings for these speakerconnections.• Move the Channel 3 Separate Switch ¤to the left so that it is under the word “ON”.• Locate both the Bridge 1 Amplifier ModeSwitch ‡ and the Bridge 2 AmplifierMode Switch ° on the rear panel, and usea #1 Phillips screwdriver to carefully removethe screws on either side of the plastic switchguards that are around each of the switches.• Remove both plastic guards and set themaside with the screws.• Slide both switches to the left so each one isunder the word “BRIDGE”.• Replace the plastic switch guards with thetwo screws so that both switches are securedin their proper position.Note for Audio ConnectionsWhen making connections with the RCA-typeplugs on interconnect cables, make certain togently but firmly insert them into the jacks onthe back of the PA 4000. Loose connectionscan cause intermittent sound and may damageyour speakers. The barrel assembly of somehigh-quality RCA plugs may be very tight, and itis important to ensure a proper connectionbetween the interconnection cable and theinput jack.+ — + —Right Speaker Left SpeakerChannel 1+ — + —Right Speaker Left SpeakerCH1CH2CH3CH4 |
