SYSTEM CONNECTIONSSystem ConnectionsParallel Output ConnectionIn some multiroom systems, you may wish tohave the same signal fed to multiple amplifiersto power additional rooms on a single zone. Todo this, connect the Main Amp Output Jacks‚ to the input of the additional, optionalpower amplifiers. Note that signal feed sent tothese jacks is the feed from the MainAmplifier Input Jacks ⁄. The source con-nected to the Channel 3 Input Jacks › maynot be sent to a parallel output.Infrared Control ConnectionsThe PA 4000 allows you to anchor a multi-room installation by receiving IR remote controlcommands from remote rooms and, wherecompatible, using them to control other source-control components. IR connections are madeas follows:Connect the incoming IR feed from a remoteroom to the appropriate Remote IR SensorInput ‹. To send the incoming IR signalsonward to source components or an AV receiveror other controller, connect the IR RemoteControl Output § to the IR input of thedesired component to be controlled. When the PA 4000 is used in conjunctionwith a compatible, multiroom-equipped,Harman Kardon AV receiver, such as theAVR 7000, AVR 510 or AVR 310, you may alsouse the remote-room IR commands to turn themultiroom feature of the AVR on and off whilethe volume is controlled in the PA 4000. Toenable this function, slide the MR On/OffCommand Switch ¶ to the left so that it isover the word “ON”.Notes for Infrared Connections:• When the optional keypads incorporating IRsensors from third-party suppliers are con-nected to any of the Remote KeypadInputs fl, do not make any connections tothe Remote IR Sensor Input ‹ for thatamplifier channel pair.• When the optional keypads are connected, the output of the IR sensor built in to thekeypad should be connected to the AV receiv-er or other devices to be controlled using theIR Remote Control Output §.Keypad ConnectionsThe PA 4000 is designed for use with optional, compatible remote room keypads. These key-pads will control the volume and power on/offfor a particular room’s feed. In addition, thekeypad may include a built-in IR remote sensorthat may be used to carry control signals tosource equipment, a receiver or a multiroomcontroller. When these keypads are used, con-nect the keypad from a remote room to theRemote Keypad Input Jack fl matching therespective room location. When the PA 4000 is used in conjunctionwith a compatible, multiroom-equipped,Harman Kardon AV receiver, such as theAVR 7000, AVR 510 or AVR 310, you may alsouse the remote room IR commands to turn themultiroom feature of the AVR on and off whilethe volume is controlled in the PA 4000. Toenable this function, slide the MR On/OffCommand Switch ¶ to the left so that it isover the word “ON”.NOTE: The connection jack used for the key-pads is an RJ-45-style jack that is identical tothat used for some telephone or data applica-tions. However, these jacks are used by thePA 4000 solely for use with compatible key-pads. They should not be used for any otherpurpose or connected to any other device.AC Power ConnectionThe final step in the installation of the PA 4000is to connect the power cord. First, connect thefemale end of the cord into the AC PowerCord Jack ª on the rear panel. Once the cordas been firmly connected to the PA 4000, insertthe plug end into an AC power outlet.SAFETY NOTES:• Due to the current draw of the PA 4000, DONOT connect the power cord to the accessoryoutlet on audio/video components.• Should the power cord become lost or dam-aged, be certain to replace it with a replace-ment that meets or exceed the original speci-fications. Use of power cords with insufficientcapacity, such as those used with computersor office equipment, may create a safetyhazard.PA4000 harman/kardon18
