6or the elbow should be installed insidethe flue connector on the stove. Itshould be held in place by drilling threeholes through the pipe. The holesshould be of suitable diameter for thesheet metal screws or pop rivets usedfor fastening.A straight section of pipe or anelbow must now be installed.A barometric damper may beinstalled on this vertical section of thepipe. Use a listed barometric damper.IMPORTANT! ALL HORIZONTALRUNS SHOULD HAVE A 1/4" RISE TOTHE FOOT SO THAT ANY LIQUIDTHAT MAY DEVELOP WILL RUNBACK INTO THE STOVE.Connector thru Walls and ChimneyNFPA 211 does not permit a chim-ney connector to pass through any flooror ceiling or through any fire wall or firepartition. However, where necessary, aconnector may pass through a partitionother than a fire partition under any ofthe following conditions:A. Where a ventilated type metal thim-ble, (see figure 4) is used. Such a thim-ble must be at least 12 inches larger indiameter than the chimney connector.B. Where a metal or burned fire-claythimble is used and the thimble is sur-rounded on all sides by not less than 8inches of brickwork or equivalent fire-proofing material.Figure 5: Connecting smokepipe(Connector) to Chimney Through Wall. Two methods of connecting achimney connector to a chimneyflue where the connector mustpass through a combustible parti -tion wall. Instead of the asbestosboard shown, sheet metal may beused, or a metal lath and plasterfinish may be applied at that area.Use 24 gauge or heavier metal.Clearance needed is three timesthe diameter of stovepipe.C. Where all combustible material iscut out of the partition wall for a suffi-cient distance to provide not less than18 inches clearance on all sides of theconnector. Any material used to closethis opening must be noncombustibleinsulating material.D. Where the section of connectorpipe passing through the wall isreplaced by a properly installed sectionof factory-built chimney, the chimneysection must be listed for solid fuel useand be insulted.Where an existing chimney is used,it must be large enough to provide adraft adequate for exhausting thegaseous products of combustion. Thecross-sectional area of the chimneyflue should be at least 25 percentgreater than that of the chimney con-nector (stovepipe). For example, thecommon 8 inch by 8 inch chimney flueliner has an actual interior cross-sec-tional area of only 49 square inches (7"x 7") and, thus, can only accommodatea 7" stove connector.7.
