© 2012 Harmonic Inc. 10 Electra 1000, Version 3.0, Rev MChapter 2IntroductionThe Harmonic Electra™ 1000 Multichannel Encoder provides multichannel standarddefinition MPEG-2 encoding and DiviTrackIP™ statistical multiplexing. It accepts up to fouranalog composite or serial digital standard definition video inputs, and up to ten analog ordigital audio inputs. The encoder operates within an IP environment, allowing flexible networkarchitectures. This chapter describes: The environment in which you can operate the Electra 1000 General features Video encoding features Audio encoding features Support for DiviTrackIP and DPI The front and back panels2.1 Operating EnvironmentThe encoder operates under the control of NMX™ Digital Service Manager. NMX managesmultiple Electra 1000 encoders and other devices. NMX provides full configuration of theElectra 1000 platform, ports, services, and PSI, as well as alarm management. You configurea few initial network settings from the front panel of the encoder. The encoder operates withinan IP environment; therefore, encoders and multiplexers do not need to be in the samephysical location. Harmonic recommends discussing your planned network architecture witha Harmonic representative before implementation.2.2 General FeaturesTable 2-1 describes general features supported by the Electra 1000.
