These ten general ruleshelp you to correctly carry out the measurement.1. Rest for about 5 minutes before taking a measurement.Even desk work increases the blood pressure on average byabout 6 mmHg systolic and 5 mmHg diastolic.2. Do not ingest any nicotine or coffee up to one hour beforethe measurement.3. Do not measure your blood pressure if you urgently need tourinate. A full bladder can lead to an increase in the bloodpressure of about 10 mmHg.4. Measure your blood pressure on a completely bare upperarm and in a comfortable upright seated position. Theblood circulation must not be constricted by a rolled upsleeve, for example.5. If a wrist monitor is used, hold the cuff at heart heightduring the measurement. The cuff of an upper arm monitor isnaturally positioned at the correct height.6. Please do not talk or move during the measuring procedure.Talking increases the values by about 6 –7 mmHg.1 min7. Wait at least one minute between two measurements, sothat the vessels are relieved from pressure in preparation fora new measurement.8. Document all measurements with the date, time andmedications taken, conveniently and simply with Veroval®medi.connect.9. Take measurements regularly. Even if your values haveimproved, you should continue to check them formonitoring purposes.10. Always take measurements at the same time of day.Because a person has about 100,000 different bloodpressure values over the course of a day, singlemeasurements are not meaningful. Only regularmeasurements taken at the same time each day over alonger period of time give a meaningful assessment ofblood pressure values.5.2 Applying the cuff■ Before applying the cuff, insert the cuff plug into the connector socket on theleft side of the monitor.■ Do not mechanically constrict, compress or bend the cuff tube.■ The blood pressure must be measured on a bare upper arm. If the cuff iscompletely open, thread the end of the cuff through the metal ring to forma loop. The hook-and-loop fastener must face outwards. Hold the cuff by thegrip tab A (see Fig. 1) and pull it over your upper arm.Fig.1A BFig. 2
