4-1MAINTENANCEVFC 15-150 - VFC 45-225 MODULATING GAS bOILERSMAINTENANCE4.0Boiler MaintenanCe4.1.1 General Care• Keep combustible materials and flammable liquids and vapours away from theboiler.• Keep vent terminals clear of obstructions (snow, dirt, etc.).4.1.2 InspectionInspection of the boiler is to be performed annually by a qualified servicetechnician.4.1.3 Venting• Check vent terminals for and remove any obstructions (e.g. leaves, dust, other debris).• Check, and clean or replace intake air filters or screens as required.• Check for holes or leaks in venting. replace venting as needed.• examine for any signs of moisture caused by sweating intake air pipes;insulate as required.• ensure proper resealing or reinstallation of venting on each servicing.4.1.4 Condensate Traps• Open PVC union to drain, watching for mud / debris. Flush and refill.• if condensate neutralization is used, check pH level of condensate discharge.4.1.5 burner• remove burner to inspect for extent of fouling. Blow clear using compressedair. evaluate the magnitude of clearing required, and establish a reasonableburner inspection schedule. some boiler / locations may call for annualservice, others showing clean burners will only need attention every 2 – 5years. Consider adding air filtration if burner requires cleaning every year.In alternate years, visually inspect burner through sight glass. Ensure flameis stable and without excessive fluttering. Normal flame pattern is evenlydistributed over the burner surface.• if burner is operating improperly, remove and clean or replace. use a Co2analyzer to determine proper combustion. Co2 level should be 9.0% (fornatural gas) or 10.2% (propane).• When re-installing burner, ensure it is inserted so that the seam (that runsalong the length of the metal-fibre surface) is placed as far away from theignitor as possible (180° rotation arc away). Also confirm spark gap is 1/8".Confirm visually by removing viewport, turning gas supply OFF, and allowingthe boiler to run through an ignition cycle. Compare the spark length with thespark rod diameter, which is the same 1/8" (e.g. use the rod as a reference).4.1CAUTIONLabel all wires prior todisconnection when servicingcontrols. Wiring errorscan cause improper anddangerous operation.CAUTIONThe owner is responsible forgeneral care of the boiler.Improper maintenance ofthe boiler may result in ahazardous condition.WARNINGWhenever the burner isremoved for inspection orboiler servicing, the sealinggaskets must be examinedand replaced if damaged.Upon re-assembly, anapproved leak test solutionmust be applied around theburner flange sealing area toensure there is no leakage ofcombustible gas/air premix.WARNINGFill trap with water beforeboiler is first fired to preventexhaust fumes from enteringroom. Never operate theboiler unless the trap is filledwith water.Failure to comply will resultin severe personal injury ordeath.
