Installing additional DIMMsThe following illustration shows how to install a dual inline memory module (DIMM)on a memory card.The following notes describe information that you must consider when you installDIMMs:v You can configure the server to use memory mirroring and memory scrubbing.For detailed information about configuring the server and using these features,see the User’s Guide on the IBM System x Documentation CD.v To use the hot-add and hot-swap memory features, you must reconfigure theserver by using the Configuration/Setup Utility program. See the User’s Guide onthe IBM System x Documentation CD for additional information.v At least one memory card with one pair of DIMMs must be installed for theserver to operate correctly.v When you install additional DIMMs on a memory card, be sure to install them inpairs. The DIMMs in each pair must be the same size and type.v The following illustration shows the DIMM connectors on the memory card.DIMM 1DIMM 2DIMM 3DIMM 4DIMM 5DIMM 6DIMM 7DIMM 8v Install the DIMMs on each memory card in the order shown in the followingtables, depending on which memory configuration you want to use.
