What your IBM blade server offersYour blade server is designed to take advantage of advancements in memorymanagement and data storage. Your blade server includes:v IBM DirectorIBM Director is a workgroup-hardware-management tool that you can use tocentrally manage servers. For more information, see the IBM Directordocumentation on the IBM Director CD.v IBM PowerPC ® 970 microarchitectureIBM PowerPC 970 microarchitecture technology leverages proven innovative IBMtechnologies to build powerful, scalable, reliable IBM-processor-based servers.PowerPC 970 microarchitecture technology includes features such as light pathdiagnostics, Predictive Failure Analysis (PFA), and Advanced SystemManagement. 1v Microprocessor technologyYour blade server supports two IBM PowerPC 970 microprocessors and comeswith two microprocessors installed. Together, these two microprocessors enhanceperformance. With two microprocessors, your blade server can operate as asymmetric multiprocessing (SMP) server. With SMP, certain operating systemsand application programs can distribute the processing load between themicroprocessors. To use SMP, obtain an SMP-capable operating system. For alist of supported operating systems and other options, go tohttp://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/.v Integrated network environment supportYour blade server comes with one integrated dual-port Gigabit Ethernet controller.Each Ethernet controller port has an interface for connecting to10/100/1000-Mbps networks through an Ethernet-compatible switch module onthe BladeCenter unit. The switch module automatically selects between10BASE-T and 100/1000BASE-TX environments. Each controller port providesfull-duplex (FDX) capability, which enables simultaneous transmission andreception of data on the Ethernet local area network (LAN). The controllersupports Wake on LAN ® technology.v I/O expansionYour blade server comes with two connectors on the system board for anoptional I/O expansion card for adding more network communication capabilitiesto the blade server.v System memoryThe memory controller provides support for up to four industry-standard 2.5 V,184-pin, double-data-rate (DDR), PC2700, registered synchronous dynamicrandom-access memory (SDRAM) with error correcting code (ECC) dual inlinememory modules (DIMMs). An LED on the blade-server controlpanel is lit if an unusual condition or a problem occurs. If this happens, you canlook at the LEDs on the system board to locate the source of the problem.
