Changing the batteryYour computer has a special type of memory that maintains the date, time, andsettings for built-in features, such as parallel-port assignments (configuration). Abattery keeps this information active when you turn off the computer.The battery normally requires no charging or maintenance throughout its life;however, no battery lasts forever. If the battery fails, the date, time, andconfiguration information (including passwords) are lost. An error message isdisplayed when you turn on the computer.Refer to “Lithium battery notice” on page ix for information about replacing anddisposing of the battery.To change the battery:1. Open the cover. See “Opening the cover” on page 10.2. Pivot the drive bay assembly upward to gain access to the system board.3. Locate the fan bracket assembly. See “Locating components” on page 11.4. Lift the fan bracket assembly up to gain access to the battery.5. Locate the battery. See “Identifying parts on the system board” on page 11.6.
