2UNPACKING THE SYSTEMCarefully unpack the system. If you suspect damage from transit,report it immediately to your dealer and/or delivery service. Keepthe shipping carton and packing materials for future use. Open thepackage and verify the following contents:INCLUDED2 x JBL Control X speakers2 x Adjustable wall-mount brackets(includes bar wrench and security cables)1 x Owner’s ManualPLACING THE SPEAKERSThese speakers can be mounted or placed on a stand, shelfor table. The following figures show two possible indoor applicationsand one outdoor application.For optimal performance, do not block the rear port on the back ofeach speaker.Application 1: Adding speakers to a home theater system.LeftSurroundChannelRightSurroundChannelLeft FrontChannelSubwooferRight FrontChannelLeftRearChannelRightRearChannelCenterChannelCouchTVApplication 2: Adding speakers to remote locations in your home.Left RearChannelRight RearChannelCenter RearChannelLeft FrontChannelRight FrontChannel45 oApplication 3: Installing speakers horizontally under eavesoutside your home.CONNECTING THE SPEAKERSCAUTION: Make sure that all of the system’s electrical componentsare turned OFF (and preferably unplugged from their AC outlets) beforemaking any connections.Connect your speaker wire to the post terminals on the rear of thespeaker. Banana plugs may be used for convenience. Please note ifyour speaker wire features a polarity stripe to help distinguish its twoconductors. Use this polarity stripe to ensure that you are connectingthe positive (+) terminal on the JBL Control X speakers to the positive(+) terminal on the amplifier, and connect the negative (–) speakerterminal to the negative (–) terminal on the amplifier. It does not matterwhether you use the striped conductor for connecting the postive (+)terminals or the negative (–) terminals.Do not reverse polarities (i.e., “+” to “–” or “–” to “+”) when makingconnections. Doing so will cause poor stereo imaging and diminishedbass performance.IMPORTANT: Make sure the (+) and (–) wires or connectors do nottouch each other or the other terminal. Touching wires can cause ashort circuit that can damage your receiver or amplifier.
