FADERThe 100mm FADER is custom designed to give smoother control of the overall signal level in thechannel strip and allowing precise balancing of the various source signals being mixed to theMaster Section. You get most control when the input SENSITIVITY is set up correctly, giving fulltravel on the fader. See the Setting Up, Gain Structuring & Troubleshooting’ section for help insetting a suitable signal level.LISTENWhen the latching LISTEN switch is pressed, the audio signal from the channel is fed to the head-phones, control room output and meters, where it replaces the selected monitor source (MIX orTAPE/CD IN). The LISTEN signal is derived after the EQ but before the channel fader so it is noteffected by fader level. The LISTEN LED on the Master section illuminates to warn that LISTEN isactive. Engaging the LISTEN switch does not effect the signal to the MIX, MON, or EFX outputs.LISTEN allows you to hear one input at a time so you can adjust EQ or check a channel for prob-lems without interfering with the performance.Stereo Input ChannelsThe MusicMix 16 actually has 4 stereo input channels.• Inputs 9-10 and 13-14 are very basic inputs that can only send a signal to the MIX output.• Inputs 11-12 and 15-16 are more fully featured. This is where you would connect a stereokeyboard, or an effects processor, or a CD player with pre-recorded accompaniment tracks.9L / 10R and 13L / 14R INPUTSThese high impedance inputs are unbalanced and use RCA “phono” connectors. This is a goodplace to connect a CD player for background music during breaks. If you’ve run out of input chan-nels you could also connect the output of an effects processor here but you will not be able tosend the effect to the stage monitors. Alternatively they may be used as simple effects returns orstereo instrument inputs. Note that turntables require special (RIAA) pre-amplifiers and will not workproperly if connected directly to these inputs.9-10 and 13-14 LEVELThese controls adjust the level of the sources connected to inputs 9L / 10R and 13L / 14R.11L / 12R and 15L / 16R INPUTSThese inputs accept 1/4” phone jacks and are BALANCED for low noise and top quality from pro-fessional equipment. You may also use UNBALANCED sources simply connecting 2-conductor1/4” phone jacks. These inputs are ideal for sources such as keyboards, drum machines, synths, tape machines or effects processors. Mono sources may be used by plugging into the left jackonly.SENS 11-12 and 15-16The input SENSITIVITY matches the source level to the mixer. If this control is set too high the sig-nal will distort as it overloads the channel. Too low, and the level of any background hiss will bemore noticeable and you may not be able to get enough signal level to the output of the mixer.HFSame as mono input channels.LFSame as mono input channels.MONThe MON (Monitor) send is always PRE-FADE, POST-EQ (meaning that this signal will be effectedby the EQ but not by the master fader) and therefore most appropriate for stage monitor (alsoknown as “foldback”) mixes. If a stereo source is connected to the channel, the left and the rightsignals will be summed and sent to the stage monitors.17
