System Design Using theGTS100SpeakersWhen used in the non-bridged mode,the GTS100 can easily drive 2 ohmspeaker loads. When only one speakeris connected to each channel, virtuallyany common speaker may be used.When two speakers are connected inparallel to a given channel, each speakermust have a minimum impedance of atleast 4 ohms to ensure that the com-bined load does not drop below 2 ohms.Although the amplifier will not be dam-aged, load impedances lower than 2ohms will eventually cause the amplifierto overheat, activating the protectioncircuits and causing the unit to shut offuntil it cools down sufficiently.6(+)(-)(+)(-)Parallel WiringSeries Wiring2 OhmsNominalImpedance8 OhmsNominalImpedance4 Ohms4 Ohms4 Ohms 4 OhmsWhen the GTS100 is in bridged mode,the combined impedance of the speaker(or speakers) connected to the bridgedchannel should be at least 4 ohms. Asin the example above, sustained opera-tion of the GTS100 in bridged modewith less than 4-ohms will likely causeoverheating. If monaural operation isdesired, and two 4-ohm speakers areused, it is best to connect each speakerto an individual amplifier channel anduse the “L+R” mode on the input-modeswitch to provide monaural operation.The GTS100 must not be used withspeakers that have either one of theirinput terminals wired to the frame ofthe speaker or to the chassis of thevehicle.Signal SourcesThe low level preamp outputs of anyradio/tape deck, CD player or preamp/equalizer so equipped can drive theGTS100. The Gain control of theGTS100 is used to match the amplifierto the output voltage of the source.This matching is important to keepnoise low and is explained in the GainAdjustments section of this manual(page 20).Thanks to Universal Interface circuitry,the GTS100 can also be connected topower amplifiers, radios or equalizersthat are equipped with only speakeroutputs by connecting them through thespeaker level input connector. Insidethe GTS100, the speaker-level andpreamp-level inputs are connectedthrough a mixing circuit, which allowsthem to be used simultaneously.Therefore a low level source, such asa CD player equipped with preamp
