Slide rod down the desiredamount.Tighten thumbscrew.Separate and strip the ends of thespeaker wire as shown. Speakersand electronics terminals havecorresponding (+) and (–)terminals. Most manufacturersof speakers and electronics, including JBL, use red to denotethe (+) terminal and black for the(–) terminal. The (+) lead of thespeaker wire is noted with astripe. It is important to connectboth speakers identically: (+) onthe speaker to (+) on the amplifierand (–) on the speaker to (–) onthe amplifier. Wiring “out ofphase” results in thin sound, weakbass and a poor stereo image. With the advent of multichannelsurround-sound systems, connecting all of the speakers inyour system with the correctpolarity remains equally importantin order to preserve the properambience and directionality of theprogram material.Connection TipsCenter Speaker– +Receiver/Amplifier+ –If there is no sound fromany of the speakers:• Check that receiver/ amplifier ison and that a source is playing.• Review proper operation of yourreceiver/amplifier.• Make sure all wires areconnected. Make sure none of thespeaker wires are frayed, cut orpunctured. If the system plays at low volumesbut shuts off as volume isincreased:• Check all wires and connectionsbetween receiver/amplifier andspeakers.• If more than one pair of mainspeakers is being used, check theminimum impedance requirementsof your receiver/amplifier.• Make sure all wires areconnected.
