41. POWER BUTTONPress this button to turn the poweron. Press again to turn the power off.It can also be used as a systempower button, if you connect theother components to the switchedoutlets.NOTE: In POWER OFF state, thePOWER indicator will light up orangeand power is partially supplied to theinfrared remote control receiver andthe memory circuitry.2. 1/2 SPEAKER SWITCHESThese switches allow you to selectvarious combinations of speakers asfollows:n To play 1 pair of speakers, pushonly the speaker 1 switch in.n To play a second pair of speakers,push only the speaker 2 switch in.n To play both pairs of speakers,push both 1 and 2 switches in.n To use headphones for private lis-tening or monitoring, leave both1 and 2 switches pushed out.NOTE: If both speaker switchesare pushed in and only one set ofspeakers is connected to thereceiver, no sound will be heard.3. HEADPHONE JACKStereo headphones can be pluggedinto this jack for private listening.Headphone impedance should bebetween 8 and 2K ohms. Best resultswill be between 200 and 400 ohms.4. BASS CONTROLModifies the low-frequency sound ofthe left and right channels as muchas ±10dB. Set this control at a suit-able position for your taste and roomacoustics.5. TREBLE CONTROLModifies the high-frequency sound ofthe left and right channels as muchas ±10dB. Set this control at a suit-able position for your taste and roomacoustics.6. BALANCE CONTROLThis control is used for balancing therelative sound volume of the left andright channel speakers. Clockwiserotation reduces the volume from theleft speaker, counterclockwise rotationreduces the volume from the rightspeaker.7. SURROUND MODESELECTORPress this switch to select the de-sired surround mode. The mode ischanged as below, when it is pressedin succession.The mode indicator, fl on the displaywindow, indicates the selected mode.In the OFF mode, the indicator disap-pears.Delay Time (see page 16)8. CENTER MODE SELEC-TORThis button operates only in DOLBY*PRO LOGIC* and DOLBY 3 STEREOmode. The mode changes as belowwhen the button is pressed insuccession.DOLBY PRO LOGIC MODEDOLBY 3 STEREO MODENORM WIDENORM WIDE PHANTOMDOLBY PRO LOGIC DOLBY 3 STEREO HALL OFFThe display window shows eachmode.NORM: Select this mode if you use asmall center speaker. The basssound of the center channel is repro-duced from the front speakers,because the small speaker cannotproduce enough bass.WIDE: Select this mode if you use amedium-to-large center speaker. Thebass sound is reproduced from thecenter speaker.PHANTOM: Select this mode if youdon’t use a center speaker. The cen-ter speaker’s sound is reproducedfrom the front speakers.9. TEST TONE BUTTONThis button operates only in DOLBYPRO LOGIC and DOLBY 3 STEREOmode. When the button is pressed, a2-second test tone is generated in allchannels (Left, Center, Right, andSurround) in succession. The displaywindow shows TEST L, C, R and S insuccession.The letter L, C, R or S (in DOLBYPRO LOGIC mode) or L, C or R (inDOLBY 3 STEREO mode) blinks 2Front Panel Controls |
