This allows for greatflexibility in the placing of a subwoofer, as it is difficult for the humanear to discern where the low frequency sound originates. Ideally, however, the subwoofer will be placed on the same plane as the mainleft/right speakers.Placement Tip:Bass output varies with position. For more bass output, place thesubwoofer near a wall boundary. Placing the subwoofer closer toa corner of the room will increase the bass output considerably.Step 2Connecting The SubwooferA) Line Level Connection(also knows as "Low-Level").Connect the audio/video receiver or processor’s subwoofer output,to the JBL Subwoofer’s L/R Line Level input. (Optionally, you mayconnect your Left/Right speakers as shown below.Line-Level connection Tip:Some receivers and processors have a single subwoofer output. Insuch cases it is recommended to use a "Y" adapter.B) Speaker Level Connection(also knows as "High-Level").Connect the audio/video receiver’s Left/Right main channel outputs tothe JBL PB8 L/R Speaker Level Inputs. Make sure to connect "+" (Red)to "+" ( Red), and "-" ( Black) to "-" (Black). (Optionally, you mayconnect your Left/Right speakers as shown below.High-Level connection Tip:When using small satellite speakers, connecting the JBL subwooferwith the Speaker Level inputs and then connecting L/R satellites tothe "Speaker out" will automatically limit the low frequency sent tothe small speakers with the high-pass filter built into the JBLsubwoofer. This is helpful to small speakers, in that they will thennot be required to reproduce frequencies that may be beyond theiroperating range. You may now plug your subwoofer’s power cord to the A/C wall outlet. You are now ready to use your new JBL subwoofer.Step 3Powering UpA) On/Off SwitchYour may choose to have your Subwoofer turnon automatically once it senses an incomingsignal. In that case please select the "Auto"position on the back of the amplifier. Theamplifier will turn itself off to stand-by mode if it does not sense asignal after approximately 10 seconds. When listening at very lowlevels, the amplifier’s signal may be too low to turn the amplifier onautomatically. In such cases please select the "On" position on theamplifier. When in the "Off" position the Subwoofer will remain instand-by mode and not be triggered by an incoming signal.B) PhaseThe Phase switch allows your subwoofer tomatch the output of the bass driver in relationto the other speakers in the listening room. The correct position for this switch iswhichever way produces more perceived bass. You may experiment byswitching between 0º and 180º, and determining which positionsounds best. In most cases, however, leaving the switch in the 0ºposition will produce the best results.C) Setting the Volume and Crossover Frequency:The Crossover Frequency controldetermines the frequency below which thesubwoofer will play. This frequency ismanually controlled and is continuouslyvariable between 60-180Hz. You canexperiment with which position works bestwith your main speakers by turningthis control until the sound of the lowfrequency coming from the subwoofer isnicely blended with the sound of your main speakers.Crossover setting tip:When using small speakers (speakers with a 6" or less main woofer)set this control toward the "180" position. When using largerspeakers (speakers with an 8" or more main woofer) set the controlcloser to the "60" position.VolumeWhen setting the volume control at thesubwoofer, begin with your main speakersplaying at a normal listening level and thevolume control at the subwoofer completelyin the off position (counterclockwiseposition). Then, begin to turn up thevolume at the subwoofer slowly (clockwise)until the desired bass response is achieved.Bass output will then be regulated by yourA/V receiver’s volume control.Volume setting tip:Have one person sit at the regular listening position, and a secondperson turn up the volume at the subwoofer until the desired bassoutput is achieved at the listening position. Remember most naturalsounding bass results when bass reproduction is balanced with themain speakers.Do not block the tunedport: Allow a few inchesof space behind thesubwoofer.VOLUMEHIGH LEVEL OUTTO SPEAKERSR LAUTOPHASEPOWER LINE INLMINOFF0º 180ºONMAXCROSSOVER60Hz 180HzHIGH LEVEL INFROM AMPLIFIERR LLFERVOLUMEHIGH LEVEL OUTTO SPEAKERSR LAUTOPHASEPOWER LINE INLMINOFF0º 180ºONMAXCROSSOVER60Hz 180HzHIGH LEVEL INFROM AMPLIFIERR LLFERAUTOOFF ONPHASE0º 180ºINSTRUCTIONAL MANUALPOWERED SUBWOOFERCROSSOVER60Hz 180HzVOLUMEMIN MAX100 Watts peak power8" Reinforced Paper ConeHigh-Level & Low-Level @ 120HzHigh-Level w/ High Pass @ 120HzLow-Level Full Range60Hz-180Hz - Continuously variable34Hz-180Hz153/4 ” x 10 3/4 ” x 153/8 ”26 lbsPB8Amplifier Power:Driver:Inputs:Outputs:Crossover Frequency:Frequency Response:Dimensions (HWD):Weight:Specifications |
