4Surface ControlsUse to turn on the surface elements. An infinite choice ofheat settings is available from Lo to Hi. The knobs can be seton or between any of the settings.Setting the Controls1. Place pan on surface element.2. Push in and turn the knob in either direction to the desiredheat setting. When the control is in any position other thanOFF, it may be turned without pushing down.• When the control knob is turned ON, the ring aroundthe control knob will glow.• The cooktop surface is marked to identify whichelement the knob controls.3. When an element is turned ON, the cooking area will heatup and the red glow of the heating element will be seenthrough the glass-ceramic top. It is normal to see the redglow of the element whenever it cycles ON. The elementswill cycle on and off for all control settings except Hi.4. After cooking, turn knob to OFF. Remove pan.SURFACE COOKINGSuggested Heat SettingsThe size, type of cookware and cooking operation will affect theheat setting.Hi: A fast heat to startcooking quickly and tobring liquids to a boil orblanch. Always reducesetting to a lower heatwhen liquids begin to boilor foods begin to cook.Medium (4-6): For foods cookedin a double boiler, sauteing, slowboil of large amounts of food, andmost frying.Med. Hi(7-10): Useto brownmeat, heat oilfor deep fatfrying orsauteing.Maintain fastboil for largeamounts ofliquids.Med. Lo(2-3): Use tostew, steam,simmer; tocontinuecooking foodsstarted onhighersettings.Lo: Maintaining servingtemperatures of foods,simmering foods, meltingbutter or chocolate.Cooktop At A GlanceHot Surface Indicator LightsThe cooktop has Hot Surface Lights located next to the elements.These lights indicate when the adjacent cooking area is hot to thetouch even after the control has been turned off. The red lightwill remain on until the area has cooled.1 - Left Rear 3 - Right Front2 - Left Front (dual element)4 - Right RearDual ElementThe cooking surface is equipped witha dual element located in the rightfront position. To operate, push thecontrol knob in and turn to the rightto control the small element, or pushin and turn to the left to control thelarge element.
