This will ensure that the safety of the powertool is maintained.1.2 Specific Safety Warnings forTable SawsGuarding related warnings Keep guards in place. Guards must be inworking order and be properly mounted. A guardthat is loose, damaged, or is not functioningcorrectly must be repaired or replaced. Always use saw blade guard, riving knife andanti-kickback pawls for every through-cuttingoperation. For through-cutting operations wherethe saw blade cuts completely through the thicknessof the workpiece, the guard and other safetydevices help reduce the risk of injury. Immediately reattach the guarding system aftercompleting an operation (such as rabbeting, dadoing or resawing cuts) which requiresremoval of the guard, riving knife and/or anti-kickback pawls. The guard, riving knife, and anti-kickback pawls help to reduce the risk of injury. Make sure the saw blade is not contacting theguard, riving knife or the workpiece before theswitch is turned on. Inadvertent contact of theseitems with the saw blade could cause a hazardouscondition. Adjust the riving knife as described in thisinstruction manual. Incorrect spacing, positioningand alignment can make the riving knife ineffectivein reducing the likelihood of kickback. For the riving knife and anti-kickback pawls towork, they must be engaged in the workpiece. The riving knife and anti-kickback pawls areineffective when cutting workpieces that are tooshort to be engaged with the riving knife and anti-kickback pawls. Under these conditions a kickbackcannot be prevented by the riving knife and anti-kickback pawls. Use the appropriate saw blade for the rivingknife. For the riving knife to function properly, thesaw blade diameter must match the appropriateriving knife and the body of the saw blade must bethinner than the thickness of the riving knife and thecutting width of the saw blade must be wider thanthe thickness of the riving knife.Cutting procedures warnings DANGER: Never place your fingers or hands inthe vicinity or in line with the saw blade. Amoment of inattention or a slip could direct yourhand towards the saw blade and result in seriouspersonal injury. Feed the workpiece into the saw blade or cutteronly against the direction of rotation. Feedingthe workpiece in the same direction that the sawblade is rotating above the table may result in theworkpiece, and your hand, being pulled into the sawblade. Never use the miter gauge to feed the workpiecewhen ripping and do not use the rip fence as alength stop when cross cutting with the mitergauge. Guiding the workpiece with the rip fenceand the miter gauge at the same time increases thelikelihood of saw blade binding and kickback. When ripping, always apply the workpiecefeeding force between the fence and the sawblade. Use a push stick when the distancebetween the fence and the saw blade is lessthan 150 mm (6 in.), and use a push block whenthis distance is less than 50 mm (2 in.). “Workhelping” devices will keep your hand at a safedistance from the saw blade. Use only the push stick provided by themanufacturer or constructed in accordance withthe instructions. This push stick provides sufficientdistance of the hand from the saw blade. Never use a damaged or cut push stick. Adamaged push stick may break causing your handto slip into the saw blade. Do not perform any operation “freehand”.Always use either the rip fence or the mitergauge to position and guide the workpiece.“Freehand” means using your hands to support orguide the workpiece, in lieu of a rip fence or mitregauge. Freehand sawing leads to misalignment, binding and kickback. |
